ITHACA, N.Y. A nationwide poll finds nearly half of all Americans believe the U-S government should restrict the civil liberties of Muslim Americans.
The survey -- conducted this fall by Cornell University -- found that 44 percent favored at least some restrictions, while 48 percent said civil liberties shouldn't be restricted in any way.
Twenty-seven percent of the 715 respondents supported requiring all Muslim-Americans to register where they lived -- and 29 percent thought agents should infiltrate Muslim civic and volunteer groups.
The poll also found Republicans and people who described themselves as highly religious were more likely to support curtailing Muslims' civil liberties than Democrats or people who are less religious.
The executive director of the Muslim American Society says the news is disturbing, but not surprising.

Also no Muslims or Mosques for Muslims from Muslim countries that persecute and do not allow other religions.
That would cut down on the population of Muslims and mosques that are storehouses for weapons in this country.

Wrong. The ultimate goal of islam is to subvert the republic. We can, have and should restrict any groups with this ultimate goal.
I'm more worried about not being able to have my human sacrifices for Huitzilopochtli. ;o)
Headline notwithstamding, I see nothing in the results favoring reducing rights. WE ALL were were required to register where we live during recent census, and NO group is immune to "infiltration" (it happens to Catholic groups all the time).

On the other hand my pen-name is one I've had in use for the last 42 years. This particular hornswaggler who inched his way up to the Caliphate and the founding of a dynasty is about the closest thing to a Jeffersonian the world would see in the period 6000BC to 1774AD.
He advanced Arabian interests simply by refusing to let Islams' ridiculous demands bother him.

I'm not saying this is correct...but elements of Muslim society are very conservative and reject much of the liberal dogma. Palestine and Iraq have changed much of that dynamic.

Getting a picture of what non-AA Moslems in the US are doing in elections is very difficult since there are so few of them and they live in so many places.

You wanted a source on that. Turns out my memory was a little off. What I was remembering was that a majority of Arab Americans voted for George W. Bush in 2000. Looking back at that, turns out I was right: Bush beat Gore by 7.5 points among these voters. But their votes for Republican vs. Democratic members of Congress were virtually tied, as were their party affiliation numbers. In 1996, Clinton beat Dole handily among these voters, so it looks like my assumption was off. Here's a source:

So my basic point that this election brought a major Arab American shift to the Democrats remains valid.
