ITHACA, N.Y. A nationwide poll finds nearly half of all Americans believe the U-S government should restrict the civil liberties of Muslim Americans.
The survey -- conducted this fall by Cornell University -- found that 44 percent favored at least some restrictions, while 48 percent said civil liberties shouldn't be restricted in any way.
Twenty-seven percent of the 715 respondents supported requiring all Muslim-Americans to register where they lived -- and 29 percent thought agents should infiltrate Muslim civic and volunteer groups.
The poll also found Republicans and people who described themselves as highly religious were more likely to support curtailing Muslims' civil liberties than Democrats or people who are less religious.
The executive director of the Muslim American Society says the news is disturbing, but not surprising.
until this year, most arab americans (not quite the same as muslim americans, but mostly overlap) voted republican
Appearances sure can be decieving... especially when one is allowed to lie and practice taqiyah and deception to promote the Islamic cause.
I'm reminded this question and reply from mainstream Islamic site Ask the Imam
Q: To become a citizen of US one has to take an oath of allegiance. is it ok to take the oath.As for CAIR, there's more by Daniel Pipes here.A: As Muslims, we are duty bound to follow our lives strictly according to Shariah. Whatever Shariah allows us to do, we will abide by that and whatever Shariah has restricted us from, we will refrain from it. Hence, we are not allowed to obey anybody if it is resulting in the disobedience of the Creator, Allah. Nabi (Sallallaahu Alayhi Wasallam) said, There is no obedience for the creation by disobeying the Creator. (Mirqaat vol.7 pg.217; Imdadiyyah).
Hence, keeping this in mind if one is forced to sign the above in order to become a citizen or the only way of attaining citizenship is by acknowledging the above, then one may sign it with the intention that Shariah and Deen will always be his yardstick and that he will never sacrifice any of the teachings of Deen.

Also no Muslims or Mosques for Muslims from Muslim countries that persecute and do not allow other religions.
That would cut down on the population of Muslims and mosques that are storehouses for weapons in this country.
Turnabout is fair play. Tolerance should go both ways.
Thank You, again Jan. NSNR
Wrong. The ultimate goal of islam is to subvert the republic. We can, have and should restrict any groups with this ultimate goal.
I'm more worried about not being able to have my human sacrifices for Huitzilopochtli. ;o)
Headline notwithstamding, I see nothing in the results favoring reducing rights. WE ALL were were required to register where we live during recent census, and NO group is immune to "infiltration" (it happens to Catholic groups all the time).

Any sources for that please?
The "penetration" of Type B bloodtype into Eastern, Central and Western Europe is a tribute to their "advance". I don't see all that many Buddhists in that area these days, so something happened, eh?!
I hope you picked up on the article about a single "Y" chromosome being found in some 10% of all the males in that vast swath of territory conquered and held by the Mongols. It is being attributed to Ghengis Khan himself! Supposedly he is one of history's greatest fornicators!
You don't suppose he held the line at sleeping with Christian girls do you?
I'm not.
On the other hand my pen-name is one I've had in use for the last 42 years. This particular hornswaggler who inched his way up to the Caliphate and the founding of a dynasty is about the closest thing to a Jeffersonian the world would see in the period 6000BC to 1774AD.
He advanced Arabian interests simply by refusing to let Islams' ridiculous demands bother him.
Seems to me somebody did some accepting eh?!
In the 2000 presidential election, as many as 80% of Muslim voters cast their ballots for George W. Bush. http://christianity.about.com/od/religionandthepresidency/a/muslimvote.htm
I'm not saying this is correct...but elements of Muslim society are very conservative and reject much of the liberal dogma. Palestine and Iraq have changed much of that dynamic.
I hear you...no prob.
Getting a picture of what non-AA Moslems in the US are doing in elections is very difficult since there are so few of them and they live in so many places.
"until this year, most arab americans (not quite the same as muslim americans, but mostly overlap) voted republican"
You wanted a source on that. Turns out my memory was a little off. What I was remembering was that a majority of Arab Americans voted for George W. Bush in 2000. Looking back at that, turns out I was right: Bush beat Gore by 7.5 points among these voters. But their votes for Republican vs. Democratic members of Congress were virtually tied, as were their party affiliation numbers. In 1996, Clinton beat Dole handily among these voters, so it looks like my assumption was off. Here's a source:
http://www.aaiusa.org/PDF/AAvoters.pdf
Still, Kerry beat Bush by about 2:1 among Arab Americans this year, at least in swing states (thus presumably pretty close to representative of the nation): http://www.aaiusa.org/finalpoll2004.htm
So my basic point that this election brought a major Arab American shift to the Democrats remains valid.
"Threads like these worry me"
"Then trot your sorry a$$ back to the DU and stop worrying. You won't be missed."
Me to?
Is someone who doesn't believe we are at war with Islam and is concerned about about anti-Muslim statements a DUer?
We reject every act of hatred against people of Arab background or Muslim faith
