Major East Coast Storm In The Works
Accuweather.com ^ | 12/16/04 | Accuweather

Posted on 12/16/2004 9:51:26 AM PST by CollegeRepublican

From Accuweather.com: There are some definite signs that a major storm will take shape along the Carolina coastline Sunday. From there, it will rapidly strengthen and spin northward up the coast Sunday night and Monday. Fuel for the storm will be a direct confrontation between very cold air charging southward through the Great Lakes and mild air streaming in from off the Atlantic Ocean. The clash of air masses will be the product of an unusually large amplification of the jet stream. This storm could have major impact on shopping and travel late in the weekend and early next week. When the exact track of the storm becomes more evident, AccuWeather.com will bring you the specifics on timing and actual snow accumulations.

You're nothing but a red-stater in a blue state. They have to tolerate enough of you to run the snowplows. Nancy-boy liberals don't know how.

No disagreement here, jb! I'm always happy to take their blue money and put it to good use, though 8^)

I forgot about Hurricane Grace being involved in that storm. I must be thinking of another nor' easter that brought tons of snow to the northeast and that was during a colder month. Maybe early March?

How about Sunday afternoon so I can go to church first. Then, let it snow! I'll be home for a White Christmas...

Nononononono.... au contraire, snow means that the weather patterns are SHIFTING and essentially PROVES the existence of Global Warming.

A snow day from work wouldn't be bad, either...

My friends and I are already making contingency plans for sledding on Monday and hoping for no work. :)

very cold air charging southward through the Great Lakes

What very cold air? It was 20 yesterday and 31 today.
A very mild December, (so far.)

"This sounds similar to the conditions during "The Perfect Storm"."

Yes! The Great Lakes Area, and the Atlantic Ocean are in exactly the same positions!

Latest model trends are for the storm to be offshore, btw.

Well...I can still dream, can't I? ;-)

I made a lib choke when I told him he could go to Canada if he wanted, but he can't take my state (RI)with him.

He sniffed and said that what could I do, the vote was 60% for Kerry so I was outnumbered.

I said, yes, but we forty percent have all the guns.

My mind is toast today! LOL

Here is the storm I was thinking of.................

The Great Nor'easter of December 11, 1992
The National Weather Service called this storm "one of the epic storms of all time". Insured losses mounted to $ 850 million Total damages around $ 2 billion) and nine deaths. High storm surges caused many mandatory evacuations in coastal areas. The FDR was inundated and rescue divers had to rescue trapped motorists. The Red Cross sheltered 300,000 people. This was the storm that wiped out the stretch of homes in Westhampton and caused breaches into Moriches Bay.

On Fire Island: For four days the beach was pummeled by high waves, which were made more damaging due to the high tides.

Joseph Fayden (homeowner) writes: The 92 storm arrived on a full moon and the tide was about 7 feet above norm.  It also lasted 3 full flood tides.

I just hope the weather's good come New Year's weekend when I go to Newport, RI. Right now just outside of Boston (here) there's no snow on the ground. Snow may look
purty, but driving in it sucks :)

Temps in the teens here the past couple nights. So much for global "warming". How many inches of "global warming" will we have to shovel?

Now I get it. When it gets warmer during the summers, its global warming due to man, and if it snows heavier in the winter, its still global warming due to man. Either way we are responsible. And now I feel guilty about working out here in the oil patch contributing to the problem.

Kinda reminds of the time Granny (Beverly Hillbillies) cooked a giant sponge and Jethro ate it. He remarked, "didn't have much taste, but it sure did soak up the gravy ;)

So you are saying that I am getting excited for nothing and this thread was a waste of time? Or are you saying there is a chance?
