SAN FRANCISCO (AP) - San Francisco supervisors want voters to approve a sweeping handgun ban that would prohibit almost everyone except law enforcement officers and security guards from possessing firearms in the city.
The measure, which will appear on the municipal ballot next year, would affect residents who keep guns in their homes or businesses, Bill Barnes, an aide to Supervisor Chris Daly, said Wednesday. It would also prohibit the sale, manufacturing and distribution of handguns in San Francisco, as well as the transfer of gun licenses.
Under the language of the measure, police officers, security guards, members of the military, and anyone else "actually employed and engaged in protecting and preserving property or life within the scope of his or her employment" could have a firearm.
Barnes said the initiative is a response to San Francisco's skyrocketing homicide rate, as well as other social ills.

Skyrocketing homicide rate. Due to increased gang/drug activity, I'll bet. Criminals are not going to obey gun laws. Never have. Never will.

I bet San Fransico based Levi Strauss & Co. is supporting this gun ban. I'm sure most Freepers are familiar with the Levi Strauss Company's involvement and large donations to anti-gun orginizations such as PAX.

I'm surprised the mayor doesn't just try to impose such a stupid rule. Another reason to avoid this cess pool of a city.
