Pet dog saves baby from drowning

A PET dog has saved a toddler from drowning in a dam at a property north-west of Melbourne.
The 18-month-old girl was fished out of the dam at the Maryborough property around midday yesterday after the family's border collie raised the alarm, emergency services said.
The dog alerted the toddler's mother to the emergency by running back and forth between the house and the dam, a Rural Ambulance spokeswoman said.
The child and the dog, who was barking and seemed distressed, were inseparable, she said.
"Apparently she was blue when she was fished out of the dam," the spokeswoman said.
"Once her mum cleared her airways and did a bit of resuscitation, she came to."
After retrieving the girl from the dam, her mother called paramedics, the spokeswoman said.
The toddler was taken to Maryborough Hospital in a conscious and stable condition and was later transferred to Bendigo Hospital.
"By all reports she is doing very well now," the spokeswoman said.

Border collie are a smart dog they have saved a many a cowboy from being gored by wild brush cattle.They have been known to save family's from burning homes.Saving this baby is in a days work for these great dogs.

Finally, a dog story with a happy ending. My sister owns a border collie! She's very shy, but incredibly smart.
In fact, the breed is known for its intelligence and intensity. Besides, they were the best part of the movie Babe. Gorgeous dogs.
