he already ugly United Nations Oil-for-Food scandal has now taken yet another distinctly despicable turn.As The Post's Niles Lathem reports, local and federal prosecutors believe that Marc Rich the one-time fugitive financier who received one of Bill Clinton's last-minute-in-office pardons was a central figure in negotiating illicit oil deals on behalf of Saddam Hussein.
Moreover, it appears that Rich began spreading Saddam's oil largesse to on-the-take international politicians after Clinton, at the end of his term, gave Rich full legal exoneration from the nation's biggest tax-fraud case over the heated objections of his own Justice Department.
Talk about a slap in the face to America.
Of course, it's not as if Rich hadn't indulged in such anti-American behavior before.
During the hostage crisis two decades ago, Rich bought oil from Iran's ayatollahs. He's also done business with Libya's Moammar Khadafy, South Africa's apartheid regime, Cuba's Fidel Castro, Serbia's Slobodan Milosevic and Romania's Nicolai Ceasuescu at a time when Americans were barred from doing so.
[snip]
After the public furor over the pardon, Clinton wrote an op-ed piece in which he defended his action, saying a study by "two highly regarded tax experts" concluded there was no legal case against Rich. But Clinton neglected to mention that those experts were hired by Rich and were paid $100,000 to "analyze" his case.
Frankly, the Marc Rich pardon stank to high heaven even without the latest revelations.

As for the Clintons, they'll have to live with their own accountability in this contemptible affair.
Again, Rich's role in the Oil-for-Food scandal began only after he was pardoned by Bill Clinton.
Fortunately, the White House currently is occupied by a president who can be trusted not to sell off his pardon power.

Yeah, he'll just give "it's not an amnesty, amnesty" away for free.
Most (anti-freedom) criminals never stop until they are incarcerated or killed.
Mark Rich and William Jefferson Criminal are no exceptions.
It brings up once again my favorite statement about the two most dangerous and evil politicians in American history (who by the way are not even close to done inflicting damage on America yet)...that statment is this:
G*dd*m Bill and Hillary Clinton to hell!
Begone troll, go over to DU you will be received better...
There is NO doubt about that. And the sooner the better.
Why ruin a perfectly good Clinton-Bash thread.
I hate to break it to you, but D.U. thinks A.N.S.W.E.R. is the tops. A.N.S.W.E.R. is aligned with the leading illegal immigrant advocates in our nation. Now, isn't it charming that our president wants to provide an "it's not an amnesty, amnesty", which essentially works out to be a pardon for illegal immigrants? Think about it. Learn about it. Fight it.
Well, sorry, but when our side starts to offer something that looks an awful lot like a pardon for illegal activity, it bothers me.
Now, back to bashing Clinton. It's a worthy cause.
dont forget mrs rich:

The interesting thing is that the CIA knew during Clinton's term that Rich was involved in violating the sanctions with Saddam, yet he chose to pardon him. If the CIA knew, Clinton had to have known.
Hitting the fan - again - bump...
Oh, I wouldn't be so quick to state it like that, NY Post. Before Rich's name explicitly came out, we had discerned some associates of his on "the list". I suspect he was involved before but in a hidden way. I (and I'm sure most freepers) suspect the Clintons were in on a "cut" of the take, too.
Yes, indeed. Early on in this scandal I noted that the left's cry of "No War for Oil!" gets a very ugly meaning with these revelations. No war to take away their oil and innocent Iraqis be damned, is what they really meant.
