I just lost my beloved Wolfhound this morning. He was diagnosed with Lymphoma in October and was doing really well. He died of complications as a result of the chemo.
Jamie was the best dog in the world. I never even had to train him, he just always did what I asked him to do. He was one of those good natured protectors. You know the type, they didn't bark, they just got between you and whoever. Since he weighed 192 lbs nobody ever bothered to test him, they just kept their distance. You could take him anywhere, he had perfect manners. And he was so funny, he'd make you laugh until the tears streamed down your face.
He was my best friend, and my heart is broken.
I'm so sorry for your loss.
Nothing but hugs, kisses and more hugs. they are family, in fact, sometimes better than family, cuz you can choose a dog...........God will take care of him, and you!
It has been 11yrs since puppy days for me as I just put my 15 yr old down and still have an 11yr old both from my own litters.
So last Jan and then in may brought two new yellow lab puppies home.
I am now a grandmother, will never have the human version.
Being home bound the granddogs I am raising have the best as my time is theres.
I have traind them to work around my pain issues to use a step stool and come up to me for loving or other needs.
This christmas I am baking but having all human freinds who are watching sugar intakes due to aging and preventative care I am baking Dog Cookies four different types.
I have all the ingrediants organized and ready to go for the big bake days as I am doing 16 dozen. Half will be cut outs of Christmas shapes the other are bake and cut.
Liver Snaps
Puppy Peanut Butter
Vegetarian Squares
And A fish oil, rice and soy.
I can't wait and have had some people ask to be on the gift giving list!
No apology necessary. My sincere condolences...only dog people would understand.
We have an odd couple: a wonderful 5 y/o Bichon Frise and an 8 month old Golden Retriever (72 pounds--'nuff said).
I would imagine Santa has a puppy on his list for you...
concur.
I know the feeling, it sucks more than anyone that is not a dog owner can ever understand.
As a dog owner, I sympathize. I am so sorry.
It's alright to be sad and remember your friend. Even after a new pup catches your eye, heart and nuzzles his way into your life.
Jack.
It's cute, great for the kids (and the grownups too).
My sympathies. Your beloved pet will be waiting for you at the Rainbow Bridge. http://www.petloss.com
My deepest sympathies. I once had a wonderful wolfhound named Cedric. The day he died is one of the saddest days of my life.
"Rainbow Bridge" bump. (Post 7). Always makes me cry, because I have some dear animal friends waiting there.
I hope St. Francis gives him a hug and tells him that you'll be along, all in God's good time.
Oh, (((McGavin)))
So sorry to hear about your Jamie. Prayers to God to comfort you in your sorrow.
I truly believe we'll be reunited with our precious pets one day.
A Tribute To The Dog
Gentlemen of the jury, the best friend a man has in this world may turn against him and become his enemy. His son and daughter that he has reared with loving care may become ungrateful. Those who are nearest and dearest to us, those whom we trust with our happiness and our good name, may become traitors to their faith. The money that a man has he may lose. It flies away from him when he may need it most. Man's reputation may be sacrificed in a moment of ill considered action. The people who are prone to fall on their knees and do us honor when success is with us may be the first to throw the stone of malice when failure settles its cloud upon our head.
The one absolutely unselfish friend that man can have in this selfish world, the one that never deserts him, the one that never proves ungrateful or treacherous, is his DOG. A man's dog stands by him in prosperity and in poverty, in health and in sickness. He will sleep on the cold ground, where the wintry winds blow and the snow drives fiercely, if only he may be near his master's side. He will kiss the hand that has no food to offer, he will lick the wounds and sores that come in encounter with the roughness of the world. He guards the sleep of his pauper master as if he were a prince. When all other friends desert, he remains. When riches take wing and reputation falls to pieces, he is as content in his love as the sun in its journey throught the heavens. If fortune drives the master forth an outcast into the cold, friendless and homeless, the faithful dog asks no higher privilege than that of accompanying him to guard him against danger, and to fight against his enemies. When the last scene of all comes, and death takes his master in its embrace and his body is laid away in the cold ground, no matter if all other friends pursue their way, there by his graveside will the noble dog be found, his head between his paws and his eyes sad, but open in alert watchfulness, faithful and true even to death.
-Senator George Vest, 1870.
I know that it's hard for some people to understand just how attached you can become to an animal with whom you share your home. I've owned dogs most of my life, and losing one is surprisingly difficult. They can be wonderful companions, and in a real way, part of the family. I'm sorry for your loss.
My condolences on losing your beloved Jaime. I know your loss. There's nothing quite like having a loyal pet, particularly a smart one.
"I have sometimes thought of the final cause of dogs having such short lives and I am quite satisfied it is in compassion to the human race; for if we suffer so much in losing a dog after an acquaintance of ten to twelve years, what would it be if they were to live double that time?"
--Sir Walter Scott
With deepest sympathy
Mine were named Ginger, a collie, and two dachsies named Schnitzel and Weinie.
I love dogs!
