THE WASHINGTON TIMES
When House Republicans blocked the intelligence overhaul bill two weeks ago, some congressional Republicans say they were showing President Bush he will split the party if he goes ahead with his broader immigration-reform plan.
"It would cause a break in the party that would be extremely unhealthy for the party," said Rep. Tom Tancredo, Colorado Republican and chairman of the Congressional Immigration Reform Caucus. "I can tell you right now, the feelings are deep. This is not a superficial argument with the president.
"We were all willing to shut up during the campaign. We were not going to attack the president. But the campaign is over with and the gloves are off on this issue," Mr. Tancredo said.
He echoed the sentiments of several Republicans who emerged from a House Republican Conference discussion Nov. 20 on the intelligence bill, which they insist include strict national standards to ensure illegal aliens don't acquire driver's licenses.

Exactly, and that's why Rove has expressly forbidden the good congressman from ever "darkening the halls of the White House again." A Rep demanding that we actually take effective action to prevent terrorists and other law-breakers from entering the country is evidently unacceptable to this White House.
Priority #1: Keep those GOP coffers filled with donations from companies that demand cheap (illegal) labor. .....and thus open borders.
National defense is a distant second. (And that's giving them the benefit of the doubt).
Self-styled "conservatives" who reflexively blame the "religious right" for the GOP schism on the issue of abortion want the issue to go away by removing the pro-life plank from the GOP platform. This colludes with a secularist social agenda that devalues life and denies the Judeo-Christian moral basis of our society, our traditions and our Constitution. In truth, these people couldn't care less about the sanctity of innocent human life or the violence abortion inflicts on the human conscience. They selfishly see it as a nettlesome hindrance to their blindly self-centered goals. Just like the communists (and unlike our Founders), they believe man is his own moral compass. If you google this under "remove the pro-life plank" or "libertarian position on abortion," you can spend all day reading about their cherished vision of marginalizing God and those on the right who believe, as the Founding Fathers did, that no scheme of government will work without obedience to God.
It's about trolling for votes, political correctness, and (as I mentioned in post #81) scratching the backs of illegal alien-employing campaign contributors.
Look at Denver. For 30 years they had a Christmas Parade , First they change the name to Parade of lights, then they open it to include just about every perversion and group, then they kick out the Christians and the words Merry Christmas. How can they have a parade of inclusion and exclude 90% of the people? Gay Indians are OK, but Straight Christians need not apply.
IT IS THE LEFT THAT IS OUT TO DESTROY US AND THE RIGHT THAT IS TRYING TO BRING US BACK TO SANITY.
Also, have you heard or read recently about how suits brought against organizations under the title "civil rights" have their legal expenses paid for by the taxpayer?
No wonder the ALCU, NOW, and the NAACP are always filing suits - it's how they make their money, whether or not they win in court.
They use your money to try to have the courts overturn things you may believe in or support.
It's never been just "live and let live" with these people. It's always about the money. That goes for the pro-immigration crowd as well.
That's a generalization.
In truth, these people couldn't care less about the sanctity of innocent human life or the violence abortion inflicts on the human conscience
Again, a generalization not based on fact.
Just like the communists (and unlike our Founders), they believe man is his own moral compass.
See my first two comments above.
Social conservatives have to realize that they're not the only members of the GOP. Of course, it's a self-fulfilling prophesy. If social conservatives act that way, they'll soon find that they ARE the only members of the GOP.
I talked directly (face-to-face) with one of Tancredo's aides. She confirmed that Rove had indeed told him not to darken the halls of the White House
Up until recently, they would have been better off filing as two single people, rather than filing as a married couple. If the federal government doesn't recognize gay marriage, then gays are no worse off tax wise.
Is it okay for a state to determine the status of gays (married or not) and send the bill to Washington for all to pay?
I'm not sure what kind of bill there would be.

Hello Captain Hyperbole! :D
And it's likely to get yet even hotter before this over.
ps
Hi there lady.
"riority #1: Keep those GOP coffers filled with donations from companies that demand cheap (illegal) labor. .....and thus open borders."
Capitalism without concience.
Tom is telling it like it is. A lot of Republicans labor under the delusion that Bush can be cajoled into dropping his Amnesty for Illegal Aliens plans and other such open borders endeavors. Nothing can be further from reality. Bush is very much an advocate of Mexico's Invasion of America, illegal immigration, and a borderless America.
He is far beyond any and all reason on this issue. Only the Congress can stop Bush from implementing his open border plans with Mexico. Even then, Bush will continue to allow the status quo of mass illegal immigration from Mexico to continue unhindered. Draw your own conclusions as to what the real solution is.
Now, if we could only get it through the thick headed OBL types around here and the rest of their ilk.
He won't. Bush has made this very clear. And isn't it interesting that he would spend his precious political capital on something that only advances the interests of Mexico and the cheap labor lobby instead of reforming Social Security? This speaks volumes about Bush's priorities and where he is coming from.
