Teen Says He Lost Virginity At 9
CLEVELAND -- Research shows 16 percent of girls and 20 percent of boys have engaged in sexual intercourse by the time they reach their 14th birthday. For some fourth- and fifth-graders, sex is the topic of school lunch room conversations almost daily.
In a special report, NewsChannel5's Deb Lee explored the troubling statistics.
Lee talked with a 15-year-old Cleveland-area girl who is enrolled at the Pepper Pike Alcohol Treatment Center for kids about her experiences with alcohol and sex.
The teen said kids are having sex as young as 11 and 12 years old. She added that it happens at house parties in Cleveland and surrounding suburbs, where the liquor flows so freely and girls sometimes black out.
“I know at least six or seven girls that are my good friends that got raped the first time they ever had sex,” she said. “That's how they lost their virginity by getting raped at a party while they were under the influence.”
Another teen, who will be called Jay, also knows about the parties. He's also from the Cleveland area and was a resident at the treatment center. Jay, who is 18 now, said he had sex at an early age, too.
"I lost my virginity when I was 9 years old," he said. "Most of the time, it's us boys pressuring the girls to do this, do that. But sometimes it's not all our fault. Sometimes girls be dressing all trashy... you see them out in the street with their little short skirts and tank tops and stuff."
Another teen says TV glorifies sex.
"They're all drinking and getting drunk and everything and the rappers are talking about doing drugs and having sex with people and all that," a teen said.
Dr. Slyvia Rimm, an area expert on child psychology, has interviewed hundreds of children around the country for a book on habits of middle schoolers.
Lee said she discovered that second-, third- and fourth-graders are talking about sex.
"The oral sex, even a generation ago, wasn't common in high school and now is common as early as 8th grade and even common in high school and taken lightly, I'm sorry to say, in our former president's words," Rimm said.
Lee reported that former President Bill Clinton’s statement: “I did not have sex with that woman... Miss Lewinsky," -- has had an impact.
She said teens do not think oral sex counts as sex.
"I think there can be real psychological harm when kids are that young” Rimm said.
Many teens are choosing abstinence and sobriety. In fact, the 15-year-old in the story sought help through treatment and is now beginning a new life, in a new community, at a new school.
"I'm not going to have the peer pressure, and I'm gonna be able to do what I need to do to help myself," she said.
If Slick Willie Clintox were still in office, all middle school females would be wearing mandatory government issued stained blue dress school uniforms.
I dreamed I was at a party the other night and I said, "I ain't never seen anything like this before. And I looked around and my girlfriend was passed out on the floor."
Oh well, should have listened to my mama. She told me not to come.
Kids want to fit in, so they try to look or act alike...
I live in a nice, upper-middle class suburb and see this every day! (The way kids dress and act.)
Too many parents want to be friends first, or want their kids to be the most popular, so they allow this behavior.
Working parents or not, time is long overdue for "us" to take back the responsibility for our own kids and quit allowing our "villages" to raise them.

Sorry, despite any legal definitions, you're not going to have much luck convincing people that oral sex is perversion.
If they don't have it then they can just make more.

Plus it teaches the girls that to be 'cool' they have to be degraded. Sad :(

14 year olds can not get a job nowadays.
Today's 14 year olds are not he same as in your grandmother's day.

So let me get this strait. This guy patiently waited for years and years to marry you before getting physical. To thank him for his respect and loyalty, you dumped him? I sure hope he got a parting gift, or there’s a mad man on the loose.
At 14 years old the greatest thing was feeling up Andrea Moonshine over the shirt. It was so cool that she knew about this mysterious, magical thing called French kissing. "You mean you can kiss with your tongue? Ewwww"
This was NYC in the 70's no less.
There are latchkey kids with morals too . . . granted they usually are the ones that know if they are involved in such activities they will get their ass beat (in a loving non-abusive way) when their parents get home and find out!

I can see the girls giving oral sex to the boys but then what do the girls get? Are the guys doing it too?
What a degrading thing for kids to be doing.
OH yeah I ain't denying that making out is a rite of passage in teenagers and sometimes it goes way too far. B
but I take issue with WJBC for not calling a round of oral Sex... SEX!!!

I grew up in a suburban, upper-middle class area of San Diego, Ca.
These girls were not "bad girls" (with some exceptions), it was just that this sort of thing was so wide spread that, along with the drug use, it was considered normal and mainstream. It's all about peer pressure.
Virtually everyone I knew was having sex and doing dope. I'm talking about 80% of the student body at my highschool. Even the football team was high. I even got high with a select few of my teachers.
And it wasn't just my neighborhood, it was all over town. As I said, we thought it was normal and the way things were supposed to be.
We were still riding high from the so-called free-love 60's, I guess.
I should add that girls that had rapid, multiple partners were still labeled sluts and also shunned. But girls that had steady boyfriends and didn't "put out" usually found themselves cast out of the "cool" society and boyfriendless.
Now days, I can only imagine how horrified our parents must have been.
"And where did you carry this out? There were always a ton of people at my house and my friends' houses."
Back seats of cars, a notorious tree fort left over from our more innocent childhoods.. People's houses when parents were absent.
Don't fool yourself, if a teen wants to have sex, there are plenty of places and ways.
Believe it or not, my parents were actually very strict. But we were brazen. I used to sneak girls into the camping trailer that my dad had in the back yard... Once, I even talked a girl into going at it in my room while my folks were just down stairs watching the evening news.
It used to be an unwritten rule that some teenage boys lied and said they weren't virgins and some teenage girls lied and said they were. Now, the girls take pride in having lost it, almost as much as the boys.
