At least one idiot Canadian protested for free beer -- but others burned an American flag (photos)

This one is self-explanatory.

Yahoo News caption: A U.S. flag burns on the ground during a candlelight vigil against the war in Iraq on Parliament Hill in Ottawa, November 30, 2004. The vigil was part of a day of protests against the visit of U.S. President George W. Bush. (REUTERS/Christinne Muschi)

Classical literature isn't exactly my forte but ... wasn't getting a commie to keep his word one of the legendary seven labors of Hercules?

Had to be. (BTW, I adore your sense of humor.)

"...their left wing idiots are approximately the same as our own American left wing idiots..."

Our leftwing idiots are not burning Canadian flags, and stomping on Canadian politician dolls on TV.

Our leftwing idiots don't get elected to office with the message that they are not Canadians, but both the right and the left in Canada use the anti-America line "WE ARE NOT AMERICANS" to get elected.

The only comparison is they both hate. One hates America, the other hates the right.

"I KNOW the Founding Fathers were in favor of free beer."

They all brewed their own, and that is fitting.

What an original concept! So daring.

Really. The slogans on the signs are always the same, the chants are always the same, and the people are always the same. Just a series of empty gestures to make up one big empty gesture...

Just imagine "President Kerry" in that picture trying to swing that axe.

"Can I git me a log to chop, here?"

There were counter demonstrators, but the media won't show them.

There were people welcoming Bush along the way on his ride in from the airport. He thanked them for waving "with all five fingers"

Also, the Parliament Hill web cam shows shows lot smaller crowds all day than the media would have you believe. (The camera shows that they have all gone home now, or possibly boarded busses to Halifax)

Speaking as a graphic artist who uses Photoshop everyday, the photo of GWB extending the salute is definitely altered.
(confidence 100%).

The Wall Street Journal had a heartening short story on the editorial page today. Here's a short excerpt...
So it's refreshing to learn that Canada's hoi polloi (i.e., the silent majority) take a far different view of the U.S. According to poll results released yesterday, some 71% of Canadians identify the U.S. as their country's closest friend. In addition, 60% say they have "positive" feelings about America, while a further 25% say their feelings are "somewhat positive" -- adding up to a grand total of 85% with good vibes about the U.S. The main reason given for the close ties is trade and economic relations.

The poll was commissioned by the non-profit Friends of America, itself a name to take note of. Friends of America says it is "funded by ordinary Canadians who want to strengthen the friendship between our countries and are tired of watching Canada being labeled anti-American because of a vocal minority."

The leftist scum are a small minority in Kanuckland just as they are here.

I hate to admit it - what with Michael Moore and all - but, OK you win: your left-wing idiots are better than our left-wing idiots.

BTW, I'd be really interested in seeing the list of anti-American Canadian conservatives you've implied you have.
Further, if you're really saying that U.S. leftists, like Moore, don't hate America, think I'll just sit back and watch your own countrymen set you straight.

Now that's a protester that knows what he's talkin' about (or is that aboot?). The Mckenzie Brothers would be proud.

It's not a "Vigil" if flags are being burned, it is a Protest.

Where were all these protestors when Sadaam gassed his people and others? Where were these protestors when Sadaam's regime tortured people to death? Where were these protestors when Sadaam was filling mass graves?

I believe many Canadians are in fact anti-American. I just think they're too d**'n lazy to turn up for protests.

"I believe many Canadians are in fact anti-American. I just think they're too d**'n lazy to turn up for protests."

You're right some are but then there are those on FR who are too mentally lazy to differentiate between pro-American and anti-American Canadians.

While we've all got our faults, I've heard of a Canadian conservative thoughtless enough to blame the vast majority of decent Americans for Bill and Hillary.

Musta used too many brain cells changing the word I first wanted to use to "thoughtless".

After 9-11 my wife drove from Halifax to Maine, and almost every house along the way had a US plag displayed, to show solidarity. She was in tears by the time she reached the US, to think that people in small, rural homes in New Brunswick had managed to find American flags for the occasion.

All of the flags in my area of New Brunswick were at half-mast for weeks. In driving from Halifax to Maine, she would have driven right through it. I still see cars with NB plates and 9-11 stickers.
