Will you spend more on Christmas/Holiday gifts this year than last year? I have seen so many polls on websites asking a very similar question but without the use the "C" word. This one does. I answered it! Hope you do too!

You forgot about the annual "Airing of Grievances".

I'm getting very sick of the glib equation of quanza with the real Holidays of Christmas and Hanukkah that we see in the media.

Religious holidays that are thousands of years old are being lumped in with this nutball ripoff stunt and it is driving me to anger.

What was the name of the character that visited his show periodically? Listerina or something? I remember "her" mentioning her daughters K-Martia (conceived in the parking lot), Chlamydia, etc.

You bet it's UP.

Doing my part to stimulate the economy. Or maybe just reliving my boyhood Christmas's through my 3 year old son. The toys get pretty cool from this point on.

Thanks for the reference to John 10.22.

The Greek word in John 10.22 for the feast is ta enkainia, "feast of renovation" (or "consecration"). The same word is used in the Apocrypha at II Esdras 6.16-17 for the dedication of the temple (= I Esdras 7.6-7 in Goodspeed's translation of the Apocrypha).

In I Maccabees 4.59 there is an account of the rededication of the temple by Judas Maccabaeus, from which the Channuka celebration stems, but the word used there in the Septuagint is enkainismos, a word from the same root with the same meaning.

The corresponding Greek verb is used in the Septuagint version of I Kings 8.63 for Solomon's dedication of the temple.

I've forgotten who the frequent visitor was, but some of the names of the daughters, the two you listed, and "Fallopia".

Sure wish he was back on the air here.

I'm not sure he's even on air at all anymore - I saw him on one of the Fox evening shows in the last week or two and the caption beneath him was "former radio talk show host." Shame - I enjoyed him when it played here as well.

I'm putting all my Festivus offerings on the card this year. No more endless hours carving the Declaration of Independence into the inside of a walnut shell, just to see
it gathering dust. Nope, this year I'm going down to
Mitten World and get alpaca mittens for everyone.
Keep it simple don't you know.
