Comments: The data charted above, which began circulating on the Internet shortly after the U.S. presidential election of 2004, would appear to confirm an elitist supposition held by some on the left namely that Bush supporters are dumber than Kerry supporters.
There's just one problem: the numbers in the "Average IQ" column were fabricated. No such data exists.
As it happens, the same figures were bandied about earlier this year in reference to 2000's Bush/Gore election, and discredited in short order. Then, as now, it was claimed that the numbers purporting to represent average IQ by state came from a book entitled "IQ and the Wealth of Nations." However, one of its authors, Richard Lynn, stated that the book contains no such data.
It also bears pointing out that three states switched their electoral preference from one party to the other between 2000 and 2004, with no corresponding change in the alleged IQ of the populace.
Lastly, the hoax is reminiscent of a widely circulated email dating from 2001 which claimed, on the basis of phony documentation, that G.W. Bush has the lowest IQ of any modern president.
There was a discussion about the average IQ of a Kerry or a Bush supporter a few days ago. I was skimming along an Urban Legend site and found this little tidbit....
Hey Mike!
I see you're a short timer now.
Stay safe!

I would, but the firewall here blocks that sort of thing...if I were to post it from my hard drive....
things will change when I get home though....
Thank you...will do
I heard people talking about this in a store. I said do you really think that, say in TEXAS, that the counties along the rio grande valley (that is, blue counties) have a higher IQ than say the counties with, Houston, Austin and Dallas FT worth(that is , red counties). 'nuff said.
Heck - when compared to Kerry's military records, my records indicate I have a much higher IQ than he does. I'm a retired Air Force NCO and have settled in Mississippi and voted for Bush. I challenge Kerry to publicly prove me wrong.
Take Massachusetts for example, bunch of real smart folks who voted for the highest tax rates in the U.S.,
and keep electing a fat drunken murderer as its senator.
Yup real brains there, those of a bird though. ;)
To these guys the fact that you vote for Bush is gross evidence of inbreeding, severe head trauma, and a public education. If you were an intelligent, well educated, mover and shaker you would have seen the obvious...That their way is the intelligent thinking mans choice.
Maybe this is not statistical but my family (half liberals) and my work environment (engineer for DoD) indicate that the more educated and harder working types tend more on the right side of the aisle. Almost all engineers I have known are conservative except the occasional minority or woman. I also think that more than 57% of veterans supprted Bush since I know very few vets not suporting Bush.
Now, being from the South, I just don't see any basis for the redneck stereotype. I have NEVER met scummier people than the dirtbags I came in contact with in Mass. Not all, mind you, but the average individual is rude, short tempered, selfish, impatient, unfriendly, doesn't like to smile, and many were not at all bright. Common courtesy isn't common at all in the northeast.
Please, if you're from there, don't flame me. If you're a Freeper, you are an obvious exception.
This is so simple to prove false.
Michigan is above Ohio.
Go Buckeyes!!!
(My apologies to MI FReepers. Including my hubby)
There is demographic evidence that would seem to indicate, by inference, that the average Kerry voter has a lower IQ than the average Bush voter. That's all I am gonna say.

p.s. I looked at your message history...
I lived in MA last few years but grew up in VA. I saw it differently. I found the people generally very polite and intelligent BUT very passive and docile particularly the Men, The women were generally bold and aggressive (if you like that type). Unlike most other places if you saw a confused idiot who could not make up their mind on the road, (to my surprise) it usually turned out to be a man. Their talk radio hosts e.g. Howie Carr and Jay Severin were very good however.
Rudeness/impatience/racism/short-temperedness/intolerance is far more prevalent in the North.
Southerners (on the whole) just seem more congenial.
I wish someone would create a map of the blue counties and overlay a similar map. Since urban area heavily voted for Kerry, and urban areas are also the home of very poor performing schools it should be interesting.
A quick listen to Hannity's man in the street interviews easliy proven that New York City blue voters were dumb as a stump. Just before the election a huge number didn't even know Kerry's running mate they were going to vote for. My youngest daught knew that and could recite the major policies of both sides.
Just remember, there are lies, damn lies and statistics.
