" ..... Vang was later apprehended by Wisconsin DNR Warden Jeremy Peery. Vang was still in possesion of his hunting gear., including back tag and also his rifle. The rifle was a Saiga SKS 7.62 X 39 Caliber, Serial Number H03104079....

The saiga is the "new generation" of the AK. It functions the same, looks similar, but is chambered for a number of different cartriges including .308 and a .12 guage model. The fit and finish are a little better and it's more expensive than a AK. We are not talking about someone that used that caliber out of economic purposes. He had the choice and purposely decided on that oddball caliber for a hunting rifle. I think this guy was a professional poacher.
I thought he was going hunting and didn't know it was private property. Then those poor saps came up and asked him to leave and I'd venture to guess weren't very nice to him about it either because of the way he looked.
I think those poor saps were the landowners. I don't know how it is in Wisconsin, but here in Texas, if you find someone poaching on your land, you don't take it lightly. He was also chasing down and killing people he wounded. Doesn't sound like a lost hunter to me.
Is it me or has anyone else ever been able to find a "low powered" rifle? I can only think that it must be one where the muzzle has been welded shut.
Media schmucks!!
And then he'll be running around the outside of the company area with his rifle held high yelling "This is my Rifle" over and over again.
Yes the quote is from the court document. The point is that the SKS and Saiga are two entirely different firearms. It's either one or the other but can't be both.
The Saiga is a current production sporting rifle while the SKS was a military rifle.
Believe you're right. It looks more like a sporterized AK than an SKS. At a price tag of $459.00. A bit much for an SKS. Nice looking rifle anyway, except for the trigger guard. Looks junky.
BTW, where's all those mean, nasty UZIs and other assorted "assault guns" we were supposed to be "flooded" with after the ban? According to the presstitutes, I should be hip-deep in guns and magazines now. I haven't seen anything new yet.
If this guy was a newly-converted Islamic, chances are he was out to earn his stripes.
Treestand, private property, shot in the back, etc..etc...
Good point. Always good to know you can hit the target with both rifle and gun...
I can tell you for certain...that I know exactly where I can, and cannot hunt. And I know exactly what my tree stands look like...and where they are placed.
This was no accident...
The receivers are also designed so that you cannot install an AK pistol grip.
I believe all this was designed into the rifle so that there would be no problems in importing it while the AW ban was in effect.
WE DONT take it lightly...
The Hmongs in my area are notorious for violating...and tresspassing...and shooting animals on others lands and in the past even on game farms...
When the cops are called they usually start jabbering on repeating their best defense "no english"..."no english" at which point LEOs are required to bring in the translater (at tax payers expense and usually on overtime to boot)
The entrepreter usually one of their own clan anyway...gives a translation in his and their best interest and they are usually let go anyway...I have yet heard of any of them around me...doing any time in the County lockup for poaching or tresspassing..
A 200 yeard shot with your gun would be impressive, but not much fun.
Jed you are probably right...about it not taking AK mags...I have seen conversions on them
Krebs does a real nice one...and they will take AK mags and PGrips Folding Stocks etc..
and I'm pretty PO'd about it myself. I'm still waiting for my mini-gun.
