Sorry if this has been posted already. This is a PDF of the court papers filed in Sawyer County Wisconsin.

Saiga is a Russian company which manufactures sporting rifles. They do not manufacture SKS rifles which are military surplus rifles from COMBLOC nations circa 1950s-1960s

The Saiga happens to use the same ammo as the SKS but unlike the SKS has a detachable magazine. Here's a link to the exporter's web site: http://www.eaacorp.com/firearms/saiga/rifles/saiga100t.shtml

The gun grabbers are trying very hard to make this an assault weapon when in fact it is a sporting rifle.

I can't read the pdf file, but am confused a bit. Is this from the article :

The rifle was a Saiga SKS 7.62 X 39 Caliber

That sounds like it is a SKS to me. The headline says it's not.

A Clear Channel News reporter actually used the words "automatic rifle" in a news report about this story.

Hate to break it to you but the SKS originally had a fixed magazine but it can be retrofitted with a detachable magazine.

Yeah, my local CBS affiliate (keye) says it's a popular rifle to hunt deer with. None of my hunting buddies carry crap like this.

I checked out your link. The Saiga looks like an SKS with some cosmetic changes.

I believe the Saiga is a factory sporterized AK, Takes AK mags. But comes with short five or ren rounders.

I just checked, the Saiga is an AK with short mags, and has a regular stock, no pistol grip.

I don't hunt deer, but I don't think its common to have a 20-round magazine like this guy did (or at least was reported to have)

BTW, anyone from Wisconsin remember those two Hmong gentleman who got in that pistol duel about 5-10 years ago? I think it was in Oshkosh, WI. One shot and killed the other, and both agreed it was "Hmong custom" to settle their dispute this way. I have not seen that story reported or referenced this week.

Doesn't really matter now does it. Six people are dead because some jackass snapped and now the media is going to say all guns are bad anyways, not just assault weapons.

At least if one isn't planning on shooting the herd :-) Seriously, my Ruger #1 in 7mm mag works every time.

some jackass snapped

I read on another thread that he was a recent muslim convert. Sounds like it could be more pre-meditated than just 'snapping'.

The Saiga and the SKS are two completely different rifles. I own a trio of SKSs so am familiar with the end user options.

The Saiga is a current production sport rifle while the SKS is military surplus, out of production since the '50s. About the only thing they have in common are the action (semi auto) and the caliber.

The Saiga is in fact marketed as a hunting rifle.

What makes this curious is that the law chose to toss in the term 'SKS' in their court documents.

If it's a Saiga then it's not an SKS. Can't be both.

No matter WHAT it was, the media would paint it as some kind of "High-Powered-Assault-Sniper-Automatic-Repeating-Drug-Weapon-Of-Choice-etc-etc".

I highly doubt it was premeditated.

You sound like one of those idiots who believe in AIMING! Bad habit to get into. Next thing you know, you'll be sighting your gun in, practicing shooting year round and staying sober while you hunt. Stuff like that can get you banned from hunting in most weatern states...

"The gun grabbers are trying very hard to make this an assault weapon when in fact it is a sporting rifle. "

The 2nd Amendment wasn't intended to protect hunting rifles. It was intended to protect assault weapons.

Based on what? The guy sounds like he had intention to kill lots of people. He just snapped, went onto private property, then waited to kill a bunch of folks?
