Newsmax recently noticed that Hillary Clinton is starting to play up border security and illegal immigration:
More than any other leader of either political party, New York Sen. Hillary Clinton has been focusing on the issue of immigration reform and border security - taking hard-line positions that appeal to frustrated Republicans in a move that could guarantee her enough red state support to win the White House in 2008.On Wednesday, as the media descended on Little Rock to cover the opening of her husband's presidential library, Sen. Clinton criticized the Bush administration for not using advanced technology to improve border security...
I've often said that the only thing saving the GOP open-borders elite on this issue has been Democratic stupidity. No longer. Hillary is many things--venal, arrogant, authoritarian, ruthless --but she is no dummy. (Did you see where she chose to make her tough-on-borders remarks? FOX News Channel.)
Unlike the Wall Street Journal editorial board, she seems to understand that the overwhelming support among Americans of all backgrounds for stricter immigration enforcement is grounded not in knee-jerk "nativism," but in rational
self-preservation. It isn't just bigots who want secure borders. It's families like the parents and widows who formed 9/11 For A Secure America, many of whom are lifelong Republicans fed up with the pro-amnesty antics of the Bush White House. It's families of victims of illegal immigration, whom both the Beltway and media have ignored.
I myself would never vote for Hillary. But the Republican establishment takes for granted at its peril the significant number of party faithful who may be sorely tempted to do so if the Bush betrayal at the border continues.
Hillary Rodham Buchanan? Don't laugh. She could be the GOP's worst nightmare in '08.
Yes, that's just what Senator Clinton is doing, she's looking to exploit a Republican weakness. Because the weakness is real she will succeed to some degree. How much depends on whether or not President Bush is able to get his proposal to legalize illegal aliens passed.
President Bush has not called for amnesty but a worker program with time limits like you stated -- we get it, why don't some of the rest or are these the anyone but Bush crowd?
Now that the election is over it's alright to speak honestly on this subject.
The President's proposal is an amnesty, as it would legalize many illegal aliens. Congressman Tancredo has a guest-worker proposal on the table that isn't an amnesty, as only those who apply from their home countries would be accepted.
The President would be wise to drop his legalization plan, as it is not only wrong, but would create huge division in the Republican Party. A better plan would be to incorporate Tancredo's proposal into the President's overall immigration reform package. Tancredo has credibility in this area where President Bush does not.
You're correct. No principles, whatsoever, except the principle of "get elected President." She'll be born again by 2007 and no telling what else. She may even take some shooting lessons and go hunting, in between cooking blueberry muffins. She's being terribly underestimated here. All she has to do is, say, turn about 75,000 Ohio votes or keep 150,000 home. Be very afraid...
He says it, but some of us watch what he does, not what he says. He has more integrity than most (by a long shot), but he IS a politician.
Good point, but wouldn't McCain be even older than Reagan was?
It's called hook, line, and sinker! Feel free to run with it until the hook is set. Blackbird.
Hillary will win a lot of support on this issue. Dumb she ain't, could it be that the Democrats are waking up? One can only hope, Bush in his pandering to illegals, in encouraging illegals to flood in the country might be sinking the GOP ship of state.
The GOP used to be the party of main street. Now it is the party of wall street. While the Dems have become the party of the hated ACLU. If Hillary can move to the right of Bush on issues like immigration, out sourcing and "free trade" there will be no stopping her in 2008. She will win in a landslide.
"only Nixon could go to China" well maybe "only Hillary can stop the flood of illegals"> Clearly the GOP can't or even worst won't. If Hillary steals this issue she will be hard to beat in 2008.
bump and thanks!

Hillary! is NEVER right. But, very occasionally, her polling causes her to accidentally adopt the right position for a while.
"Too bad" nothing. For those who left the GOP, their opinion means absolutely nothing concerning the GOP.
Work on your third parties.
it's going to get interesting.
how will the hillary thugs shut down a female of color?
More Catholics voted for Kerry than voted for Bush.
Apparently Kerry's support of "procedures" like partial birth abortion does not bother a majority of Catholics.
thanks, read later. :))
Except for the border crowd here..
The GOP wants them there for cheap labor.
