Newsmax recently noticed that Hillary Clinton is starting to play up border security and illegal immigration:
More than any other leader of either political party, New York Sen. Hillary Clinton has been focusing on the issue of immigration reform and border security - taking hard-line positions that appeal to frustrated Republicans in a move that could guarantee her enough red state support to win the White House in 2008.On Wednesday, as the media descended on Little Rock to cover the opening of her husband's presidential library, Sen. Clinton criticized the Bush administration for not using advanced technology to improve border security...
I've often said that the only thing saving the GOP open-borders elite on this issue has been Democratic stupidity. No longer. Hillary is many things--venal, arrogant, authoritarian, ruthless --but she is no dummy. (Did you see where she chose to make her tough-on-borders remarks? FOX News Channel.)
Unlike the Wall Street Journal editorial board, she seems to understand that the overwhelming support among Americans of all backgrounds for stricter immigration enforcement is grounded not in knee-jerk "nativism," but in rational
self-preservation. It isn't just bigots who want secure borders. It's families like the parents and widows who formed 9/11 For A Secure America, many of whom are lifelong Republicans fed up with the pro-amnesty antics of the Bush White House. It's families of victims of illegal immigration, whom both the Beltway and media have ignored.
I myself would never vote for Hillary. But the Republican establishment takes for granted at its peril the significant number of party faithful who may be sorely tempted to do so if the Bush betrayal at the border continues.
Hillary Rodham Buchanan? Don't laugh. She could be the GOP's worst nightmare in '08.
Nobody with any sense believes this.
There's being frustrated with W's immigration policy, and then there's committing suicide by supporting the spawn of Satan over it. Not to mention actually believing what she says.
Exactly.
Malkin knows that Hillary is playing the public. Hillary will sound like a centrist "like the male clinton" to get elected. Just like when Hillary claimed to be a "Evalengical conservative Christian" at a Pentecostal Church...she gave a little speach. Her a abortion advocate...a Conservative Christian....hahahha, my old stitches might burst laughing to much....help can't stop..snot coming out of nose...can't see too much tears....hhahahhahh
No, man. Have you been to Miami lately? Hillary would kick patootie in Florida. Believe me. (No, I wouldn't vote for her. I know better. But she'd kick patootie.)
I would bet that there are some here who would do it.
Hillary is tricky...she already has a record of supporting Pres. Bush in the WOT and the war in Iraq, just not his methods. She also supported the intelligence in going to war with Iraq.
Do not underestimate this "lady"...
PING
Malkin wouldn't support her. But a lot of Americans would.
God help us. Abe was wrong, you CAN fool all of the people all of the time!
I have long said that nothing would be done about illegal immigration until hispanics began to vote Republican. As long as they voted lockstep for the Democrats, the DNC was not about to oppose it, and the Repubs would be forever disarmed with the slightest charge of racism.
This election they broke sharply toward the Republicans, not a solid majority, but enough to remove them from the equation for future elections as far as the Democrats are concerned.
And so, in the blink of an eye, the Dems will choose new ground. As I mentioned on another thread, I (quite by chance) found myself listening to a rant on Air America last night, and the on-air talent was in a fit about illegal immigrants swarming across the border to steal jobs from good American workers. And now, it seems, that Hillary has chosen this as her issue.
To think, had Kerry realized he was going to lose the hispanic vote, he might have attacked Bush more forthrightly on his lack of border enforcement. Hillary knows she needn't worry about it, she will gain more middle american votes by pointing out the obvious than she will lose in hispanics offended. Anyone paying attention to polls would know that hispanic citizens oppose illegal immigration in about the same percentages as everyone else.
So she will be able to do what a Republican ought to have done but feared to do.
I think this is more of an entertaining "heads up" from Ms. Malkin, sinkspur.
All Hillary has to do is look at the Electoral Map by Districts to determine how clearly most the country despised Kerry leftist tilt.
If Hillary thinks that beating the "Secure Borders" drum will give her an edge in 2008.
Without mentioning Tax Inceases, Gay Marriage, Tax Increases or Abortion. Which she has to do, unless she wants to run her campaign on her own dime. Then Hillary must be stealing most of Tar-Ayyy-Zah's best Meds!
Jack.
LOL She will be the GOP's worst nightmare. She's already campaigning on the one issue that 80+% of Americans are angry about. Smart move. Too bad Republicans are so beholden to their cheap labor donors.

-- Sen. Moynahan 1992, on Clinton platform
And then, again, maybe hell will freeze over any day now.
