Rochester (AP) Police say a woman went to a Beaver County police station and admitted fatally shooting her husband after he threatened to kill their pets.
Elsie Kost was charged yesterday with homicide in the death of her husband Edward. Police say Edward Kost was killed November 16th but authorities didn't find out about the shooting until Elsie Kost confessed to shooting him and putting his body in cistern on their property.
Elsie Kost had told others her husband was away at a hunting camp. But New Sewickley police say she told her daughter about the shooting yesterday and they decided to go to police.
Kost told authorities she had an argument with her husband and that he pushed and shoved her. Police say Edward Kost had threatened to shoot some of the family pets.
Authorities recovered Edward Kost's body yesterday.
An autopsy was planned for sometime today

She should have packed up the pets and left."packed up the pets" -- Unless the pets were about a half dozen 700 pound hogs, then they should have just run over the nasty-*ss husband.

This is a common tactic of abusers -- threaten to hurt or kill whatever is near and dear to the other person. I can't say I blame her -- she might well have been next.

That's why I added my disclaimer... :-)
I'd pack my cats and leave, but if her "pets" were a couple of cows and a peacock she might have a problem.

"
Besides that, a hunter? No regard for life in general."
How do you equate those two sentences? It's a improper generalization on your part. There's plenty of hunters that cherish life and love animals (myself included). To imply otherwise is outwardly disrespectful.

Typical liberal response.

Life of a person over life of an animal? This was only a threat. Unless he was actually taking steps to harm the pets, she's in the wrong.

I'll bet threatening the pets was just a small part of a large abusive relationship.I agree.
There was a movie that Kathy Bates starred in a few years ago where she buried her husband in the back yard...... for good reason.
Dolores Claiborne -- very good movie!

Dogs have masters. Cats have staff. Wives have attitude.
Ignorant husbands better have a will or another place to live!.

Kudos to you!
Those so-called evil breeds... I have always said: "Show me a mean dog and I'll show you a worse owner." I have lived around dogs all my life and have NEVER been bit by one, nor mine or other peoples'. I am not afraid of them, I respect them and I just give them their space and time to get to know me. I trust dogs much more than humans, and would probably do for a dog a few things I would not do for a human. Koo-koo? Maybe!
By the way, today I had one of the most awful experiences: when I walked out in the garden, I saw something in the pool, which I thought was a raven... we have had the most windy and cold nights lately. To my horror, it was a little dog, a Chihuahua! I cried my eyeballs out! I have no clue where the little thing came from and no idea how she ended drowned in my pool! I could not get myself to pull the poor thing out, so I asked a neighbor to do it. I called the number on her tag and am still waiting for a return call. Just horrible!

Now I own (or am owned) by one of those much-maligned dog breeds - said dog does not allow anyone to mess with me.Good for your poochie and good for you for finding happiness.
Nasty people who are mean to animals are SICK inside, IMO.

I heard this story on local Pittsburgh news (WTAE-Pittsburgh) and the wife claims he pushed her and threatened the pets. IMO, the hubby was clearly out of control.
I'd imagine the usual Pittsburgh high profile lawyers will step in to defend her, like they do in every controversial case.

Do I understand that most of the posters on this thread think it is ok to murder a man who threatened non-humans but would require more restraint regarding a man that threatened another human? If so why?

Liberal? Never! Just an animal lover. Not all people who love animals are liberals... I just don't see how anyone can harm an animal... it's beyond me!

The biggest hole in all of this (well, aside from the one in the husband) is that he's not around to tell his side of the story.. The sole person left is the one who committed murder, and has apparently had more than a bit of time to come up with an appropriate explanation.
We have police and courts for good reason; I'm all for self defense, but the self defense explanation ends when you can easily pick up the phone and call the cops. Yeah, if hubby came after her once she picked up the phone, drop the bastard in his tracks.

I agree. I don't hunt, mainly cause I don't like loud noises. But if it weren't for hunters here in Georgia the white tail deer wouldn't be nearly as healthy and I don't think there would be any wild turkey at all.

I am also a hunter. I eat what I kill and would rather eat wild game any day of the week. It hasn't been injected with antibiotics, growth hormones, etc. & is a much healthier source of protein besides the incalculable benefits of being outside & appreciating nature. I don't know any hunters who hunt just to kill - it's called wanton waste & is against State & Federal laws. Hunters are largely responsible for wildlife conservation & habitat renewal through the revenues collected by State & Federal licensing as well as organizations like Ducks Unlimited and the like - too numerous to mention. In the words of Ted Nugent "Kill it and Grill it."

Are you mentally unstable yourself? I love it, "hunters have no regard for life in general" , but you condone killing a human being. Good to know we have our nuts in the republican party too.
