~ MILITARY SHORT SPEAK ~ |
|
The military seems to have a language of its own, with many terms, acronyms, initialisms and abbreviations that aren't generally used in the "civilian world." What is an acronym? It is a word created from the first letter of a series of other words. It is spoken as one word. What is an initialism? It is a word created from the first letter of a series of other words, but each letter is spoken separately. What is an abbreviation? It is a shortened version of a word. What is Short Speak? It is any and all of the above. Want to know what they are talking about? Read on... |

Good Morning troops!! Good Morning everyone! Only 2 1/2 days of school this week. Yes!! Anyway, here is today's humor attempt!
You are working on your family genealogy and for sake of example, let's say that your great-great uncle, Remus Starr, a fellow lacking in character, was hanged for horse stealing and train robbery in Montana in 1889.
A cousin has supplied you with the only known photograph of Remus, showing him standing on the gallows. On the back of the picture are the words:
"Remus Starr: Horse thief, sent to Montana Territorial Prison, 1885. Escaped 1887, robbed the Montana Flyer six times. Caught by Pinkerton detectives, convicted and hanged, 1889."
Pretty grim situation, right? But let's revise things a bit. We simply crop the picture, scan in an enlarged image and edit it with image processing software so that all that is seen is a head shot.
Next, we rewrite the text:
"Remus Starr was a famous cowboy in the Montana Territory. His business empire grew to include acquisition of valuable equestrian assets and intimate dealings with the Montana railroad.
Beginning in 1885, he devoted several years of his life to service at a government facility, finally taking leave to resume his dealings with the railroad. In 1887, he was a key player in a vital investigation run by the renowned Pinkerton Detective Agency. In 1889, Remus passed away during an important civic function held in his honor when the platform upon which he was standing collapsed."

Good morning Everyone. Good morning to our
Military, our Allies and their families.
Thank you Star for your continued contribution to the higher education of the Canteen family. Just think.....one day we'll all be talking gibberish, and we'll have you to thank for it. LOL.
Well, here we are back at Monday. Isn't that wonderful? Many of us will have a short week this week due to Thanksgiving, I'm sure. I know I will. I will be staying in my home area, going to my parents house for the traditional Thanksgiving dinner. On Friday, I have to get the guest room ready for my oldest son, who is coming up from Florida for hunting season with his brother and grandfather.
I hope all of you have a wonderful time. And, remember our military in your Thanksgiving prayers.
OH.....And, remember as good as all the food is, leave room for dessert!
FOR OUR MILITARY AWAY FROM HOME
I need to go make my rounds and get on to things here at work. I need to do five days worth of work in 2 1/2 days.
Now remember, the Canteen is always open
So, come on in and sit for a while. There's alway plenty of coffee, pancakes, conversation, silliness, and plain old BS.

Good morning Minor. You know, even though that is the Humor for the day, it has a lot of truth to it. MSM is famous for doing the same thing. Plus, when it comes to the internet and WWW, one can never be to sure of what is real! Scary, huh?
