Democrats are rubbing their eyes in disbelief not just at President Bush's success across America, but also about the fact that a major group they thought would stay on the liberal plantation forever is making a getaway. As they escape out the back door, members of this group are saying "hasta la vista, baby."
and....
Self-appointed black leaders simply took it for granted that the Hispanics would grow their base, and had some success in New York. This is how the seeds of the problems for Democrats were sown, however. The party behaved as though Hispanics were a monolithic group, and that all uniformly saw themselves as a "people of color" or a grievances-plagued "minority." This is not how many recent arrivals--and some other folks who have been here since the 1500s--regard themselves. That this is the case can be clearly gleaned from the fact that in the 2000 census around 48% of Hispanics identified themselves as white. The label "Hispanic" has always been misleading anyway, since it isn't descriptive of anything racial or ethnic, and basically boils down to having a Spanish surname.

Hola amigos. It is good to have our Catholic friends turn their back on the liberal plantation and vote with us.
Say what you want about Mexicans, but they are a hard working people, which means they'll be more likely to fall into the Republican camp.
In large US cities you'll see whites and blacks begging on the freeway onramps, but in front of Home Depot you'll see Mexicans begging for an opportunity to put in a hard day's work.
I find myself torn in my feelings towards the Mexican community in the US. They're as corrupt a group as can be when it comes to backing illegal immigration, but at the same time they work like real men. With the worries we now have with muslim fu**heads trying to enter the country I'm hoping the Mexicans will jump off the immigration bandwagon and help us out a little. Won't be counting on it though!
Dems view people as a member of an interest group. Conservatives view people as individuals.
(R)nold said this well at the Republican convention.
This and state's rights are the major planks of conservatism. (I think small government falls under both of these)
Big problem too with the gay and radical vote. If the Dems move off their support for the gays on the marriage issue they stand to lose both the gay and the radical vote, perhaps to some third party. A five percent slip if they can't back fill it will leave them off the map in at least three states.
Real Bush supporters do. We appreciate the fact that his margin of victory resulted from an increase in the percent of Hispanic vote that he got.
Real Republicans and real conservatives also appreciate the fact of life that we must carry a substantial percent of Hispanic voters or else we will lose everything.
However third party racists, malcontents and habitual losers have made Hispanics the scapegoat for their failures and are posing as Republicans and conservatives. Their attacks on Hispanics under the phony banners of "national security" and "enforcing the laws" threatens to set back the Republicans to the Goldwater era.
Chief among the offenders is the Buchanan/Tancredo crowd.
I couldn't have said it better. Most Mexicans I've known were Republicans and just hadn't discovered it yet. I've been around Mexicans all of my life and there have been very few I didn't like. Generally speaking I find them to be hard working, good natured, family oriented, smart, humble, inovative, courageous, courteous, and good citizens.
Amen to that.
I would add central and south american hispanics too. It's in the bloooooddd.
Did you know that GW Bush garnered 26% of the gay and lesbian vote? Why? It's security, stupid!!! Many gays and lesbians realized that electing John Kerry would be viewed throughout the Arab terrorist world as a victory for their side, which it would have clearly been. Kerry working with that criminal Kofi Annan and the UN would have eased up on the war on terror, and gone back to a pre-911 world environment. This would have allowed for unabated terrorist movement into the USA as never before. Bottom line is Muslim terrorists hate all gays and lesbians. Gays would not have lasted for a New York minute, once Osama bin Laden and the boys open season on Americans. By the way, this hate also applies to Jews, Christians, Blacks, Women, etc. Women certainly got it, so did Christians. American Jews have their own death wish or they would never vote for the Demoicrat Party. And...Blacks, alas, they are lost at sea. The election of 2004 has rendered them politically powerless by their own hand. The NAACP and The Black Congressional Caucus are now effectively just social and meeting clubs.
You are so delusional.
47% of the Latinos who voted on Proposition 200 in Arizona voted in favor of it. These Latino voters must be racists, malcontents, and habitual losers who have made Hispanics the scapegoat for their failures. Also, these Latino voters have made attacks on Hispanics under the phony banners of "national security" and "enforcing the laws".
Agreed.
And make damned fine troops.
Of course; Republ-I-CAN.
I heard one time, that hispanics had won the majority of congressional medals of honor, however I don't know if it's true. I do know my dad who fought on Iwo told me, that hispanics were great soldiers.
Also, look at our force in Europe, the most heavily decorated American division was Japanese Americans.
That's a fact.
I'm a Hispanic FReeper that voted for Bush.
