"DOBBS: Congressman, if you pause just a little, I think you're going to hear a lot of people cheering to hear an elected representative of the people talking in these terms.

The fact of the matter is, in your position, as chairman of the subcommittee, Donald Rumsfeld today, the secretary of defense, saying that he was now concerned that terrorists could use the same routes as used by human smugglers. Are you surprised to hear him at this rather late date acknowledging that risk? "

"HOSTETTLER: No, Lou. We in the House of Representatives do not short-change our constituents. And that's why, in the 9/11 recommendations bill that Speaker Hastert introduced in the House to deal with the 9/11 Commission report findings, we expanded the bill to include increasing the number of interior enforcement agents in the Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agency of the Department of Homeland Security. And we tripled it over a number of five years.

It is our hope -- it is my deep hope that when that bill is considered in conference, that we will be serious about enforcing our laws and keep the House provision in place that will triple the number of interior enforcement agents so we don't have one for every 5,000 absconders, but that we have a significant number more of agents who are tasked with these very important enforcement issues. "

I want to live in the United States that GREAT GEORGE WASHINGTON DREAMT OF.

Most Americans do too, nanak. We're glad you're here with us.

It's a crime that many of our politicians refuse to listen to what their constituents want.

Thank you, it was the least we could do.

DOBBS: Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld is warning of the threat of terrorists entering this country through the same routes as those used by illegal aliens. Secretary Rumsfeld, traveling in South America, warned that enemies look for weaknesses and take advantage of them.

DONALD RUMSFELD: The risk is that some of these human-smuggling routes into our country from this hemisphere could be used just as easily for terrorists. ~snip

Thank you!

"WIAN: From ballot initiatives to petition drives, seven states are now considering limits on illegal alien benefits. Many are motivated by the failure of the federal government to control illegal immigration.

MIKE SPENCE, PRESIDENT, CALIFORNIA REPUBLICAN ASSEMBLY: The elites in Arizona, you know, of both parties opposed Proposition 200, and yet the people still voted for it. I think we're going to have that same situation here in California."

No Sh-t! People have been jumping up and down, saying it for years. Now along comes Rumsfeld like it's some great revelation. We can't secure our own border though. The leisure rich will have to mow their own lawns. What then?

"How come EVERYBODY knows, but President Bush?"

Well, I have several thoughts about that. One is that the president pretty much lives in a bubble, and knows what his advisors tell him. That's why sometimes we have to make noise enough to get past them. This wouldn't be the first instance that he's had poor advice. That's the one I prefer to ascribe to. I've been wrong before.

The tall grass will keep them out???

Seriously, some teenagers might have to start working more instead of hanging at the mall, like I did when I was a kid and there was no "imported, slave workers".

Well, for what it's worth, my political science professor a few years back told us that politicians' offices routinely ignore "controlled drive" campaigns because it indicates that the populace is not really motivated on the issue, there's no real grass-roots uprising, etc.

He also said that handwritten letters are taken more seriously than anything (thanks to "cut" and "paste" processing programs). But I think that's a bit of a stretch in this day and age.

I can see their thinking - but - what is funny - I get mail from Reps. sending forms to sign and send back so that others will know of all the support something has -

Guess they don't think the same way when it comes to what they do -

A petition - would be the way to go - have people in a lot of areas around the nation go out and get them signed - It would be sort of like getting something on the ballot come election - and they should take note of that - considering what Arizona just did -

just a thought -
