(WICKED) THOUGHT FOR THE DAY

Thrift is a wonderful virtue --
in an ancestor.

ON THIS DAY IN HISTORY

1869 The Suez Canal opened; known as "the ditch" to U.S. Armed Forces, the 101-mile waterway provides passage from the Mediterranean to the Red Sea

ON THIS DAY IN HISTORY

1913 The Panama Canal opened (unofficially); the 51-mile waterway cuts through the isthmus of Panama, connecting the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans. President Teddy Roosevelt played a central role in making the canal a reality, for he recognized the significant economic and military advantage that the Atlantic-Pacific passage would provide the U.S.; the American Society of Civil Engineers declared the canal one of the modern "seven wonders of the world."

I did know that. I actually got out a suitcase last night, sat down to think, and fell asleep. Tonight I should probably do a little packing, since I leave for the airport tomorrow night about 1o:30pm, to fly all night and get home about 3 in the afternoon on Thursday. I got a new rolling duffle for last year, ran out of time to even take it out of the box, so used the old. This year I got it out!!

Just wanted to let you all know, I've been transferred to Chinhae Naval Base and I possibly won't have steady Internet access for a little bit.
In fact, since MY LEAVE WAS APPROVED!!! for December 3 - 30 I will probably make fewer appearances in the Canteen until January.
New job, new digs, new guys and (pray for me) lateral promotion to Corporal (my NCOIC said I'm at the top of the list for my MOS.

Thank you all for keeping the Canteen open and my spirits up and thanks especially for all the prayers.

God IS Faithful and I feel very blessed.

Arafat, Lil Kim Jong who's next for the dead pool . . . Castro? With Saddam behind bars, all we need now is Bin Laden and I might have to find myself a new job!
LOL! I know, I'm a dreamer, but I'm having a good day.

Gee thanks Spotsy.

I just spotted another thread on FR which deals with the matter of support for the Marine who has been under scrutiny in the last few days concerning his heroic action in Iraq.

I do not have the time now to view that entire thread but if Canteeners have not added a comment of support for this hero, they might consider doing so at this thread here.

Goodnight all.

Hi, Kathy!

As a veteran of many, many mobility "Bag Drag" exercises. Remember to pack first things last.

I have to re-arrange my bag for an exercise this weekend.

Jack.

LOL! I hear you. The first things last is a hard lesson. I hate having to rummage.

Do you have to go far to exercise? Rearranging is always interesting.

A late night snack? I gotta get cracking on pancakes.

I never turn down Ice Cream Sandwiches, Kathy.

No one's saying anything about where. Which is cool and understandable.

Hopefully, we'll just load. Fly around the flagpole for an hour or so and land where we started. Completing the exercise.

Jack.

Is anyone else having trouble with today's thread? It takes forever to reload after I've refreshed! ;(

Now for some good news!!!

Checking out some sites for businesses mentioned on FoodTV, I found a NJ bakery that supports our troops!

You can read about Capt. Aaron Freed and the happy eaters in this photo on this page.
