I'm going to start with a communication of support of this young Marine, to the Commandant of the Marine Corps himself. Then, President Bush and my Senator/Congressman.They are going to hear from me and I have all friggin day to do it. I am so livid about this that words cannot describe. As a former Marine myself, this young "Leather" was doing what he was trained to do, adapting to unreasonable circumstances (enemy tricks) and he did exactly what I would have done and what has always been done with a fanatical enemy. If authorities hang this Marine out to dry, I will never stop raising hell and will become a point man for pulling these guys out of theater entirely...MSM is SICK. Other suggestions?
What would YOU have done under the same circumstances, if you were in that Marine's shoes? That's right, you would have shot the guy, as we all would have.
Uh, no. Not if these were wounded prisoners. There are also methods for dealing with prisoners who might have a grenade or IED... Hint: it's not "just shoot them"...
If you believe that the only mission of a Marine is to kill everything that could be a threat, then you are the one with naivete--and naivete of the type that encourages these unlawful combatants to continue their methods! Since they have no hope of defeating us militarily, they have to rely on pushing our troops to act thoughtlessly. If they can drop us to their level, it's a victory for them.
A modern combatant must think--and/or act on training--in ways that advance our political mission as well as military. Killing EVERYONE would be easy...we could just carpet bomb the city. But the 1st/1st/1st are in there to contuct a more precise mission.
and I hate that it has to be that way....but I want us to WIN this...on all levels.
On another note, I see that Reuters re-ordered their videos so the prisoner shooting is not on the front page.
So you're claiming we take no prisoners, or we don't search them? Yeah, right...get real.
Have any of you heard the story that Rush has told a few times regarding the media?
He said that there was a conversation between the father that owned the NYT and the son that was going to own it. The father was trying to teach journalism to his son. He asked him hypothetically--If you were reporting a war, and you observed an American soldier being snuck up on from behind by the enemy, and the enemy obviously was armed: would you call out and warn the soldier, or would you record what happened to write about it.
The son said that he would warn the soldier, the father said "As a journalist, that is the wrong answer. Your job is to record history not become part of it".
Now, to be sure, I am paraphrasing and I'm pretty sure it was the NYT but I have heard the story before and was not surprised but disappointed.
Pat Buchanan just asked the Times Magazine reporter if this story, knowing that it could endanger more men by the implication and cause their actions and reactions to be more studied, would he hold off running it and the guy said NO.
Pat asked G. Gordon Liddy---Liddy said that he was upset that some news anchors refuse to wear American flag lapel pins because they "don't want to look like they are rooting for America". He said I would do what is best for the American soldier.
I believe that I was responding to someone that posted to me in the way I so chose to.
Really. I didn't see it. Is there another thread about this?
ABC and the rest know what's going down, they're trying to get on the offense with us.
Is this Sites character attempting to portray this as a war crime? As I understand it, Sites just filmed it and the libs in the MSM are painting this as a warcrime. Should we put this guy's feet to the fire or what?
OK... I know this is the trick of the libs... but why don't we begin by discrediting Mr. Sikes. Find out everything about him and get it out there. Attack his character, the way they attacked John O'Neill.
Agree.Agree.Agree.Agree.
Gen Sherman said it best: "War is hell."
I say we give NBC and Sikes a little bit of hell too.
He was raging about it last nite also. Said he wanted to "B-slap Wolf Blitzer" when he saw him on CNN talking about the Marine. Yes he did!
First of all, these wounded terrorists were NOT prisoners - they were not restrained, confined under guard, or secured in any way from the time they were shot the day before until the Marines came back on them the next day. Someone could have come, during that time, and boobytrapped the bodies, as the terrorists had been known to do, as they had not been secured under guard.
Secondly, I don't have a problem with what the Marine did as the video proves that he reasonably perceived a real threat. And, also, I now know the context and the extenuating circumstances involved, and I believe the young Marine was acting in self defense to protect himself and his fellow Marines - and even the sorry arse reporter with them. And, BTW, there was another wounded terrorist there who was not seen as a threat and he was NOT shot as he appeared to be cooperating with them.
Malicious motives should not be applied to this young Marine. The video proves that he thought the guy was faking death - he perceived that as a threat and acted accordingly - and correctly. Period.
John Kerry chased down a wounded kid in a loin cloth and shot him dead. He was given a medal. It's called war idiots. It's not pretty.
All embed reporters need to be sent home now due to the irresponsibility of Kevin Sites.( or minimally he should be given the boot. Any embed allowed to stay, at the very least should have his film cleared with the military before being shown) Let the Marines finish their job without the extra pressure.
Let's not forget these are the same people who dragged Americans through the streets and hung their charred bodies on the bridge. They have beheaded people.
They beheaded and chopped up a woman.
The people of Fallujah were warned well in advance that the troops were coming so they could get out. Those who are hiding in Mosques are not innocent. They have been regularly using Mosques for cover while they fire at our troops.
I will be calling congress. President Bush can put a stop to this now.
If we are going to keep throwing our military in jail at the behest of liberals "upset" about the deaths of terrorists in war, we've already lost.
If we are going to repay the best and brightest who are over in that God forsaken hell hole, risking their lives to protect us- with allowing the liberal media to subject them to a PC crucifixion-FORGET IT!. Bring the troops home, turn our country over to the 'rats and let it be destroyed, we don't deserve it.
Thanks for the ping!
Because they are. They hate this war and President Bush and will use the airtime to do anything to stop him and it. Including aiding the enemy.
Very good post Happy. No one can know what it's like unless they've been through it!
Amen. And if it weren't for the MSM aiding and abetting the enemy, perhaps our troops wouldn't have to be in house-to-house combat. AFAIC, the media put the troops in this dangerous position by constantly spreading propaganda about how we want to take over Iraq, how we are harming civilians, blah blah blah. Maybe we would have had this place leveled by now, and many Iraqi and US lives would have been saved.
Happy, I am the sister of a Marine, and I'm with you all of the way.
We need to make a lot of noise about this, and put the MSM in its place.
Let's not let this go, keep it out there, don't forget about it! We have got to draw the proverbial line in the sand with these traitors, and this is the time to do it. Otherwise, this "reporter" may cost us many lives because of this wannabe "scandal" .
Keep fighting!
You have my support...if our govt. can't stand up and defend those who are defending us than it sickens me to no end.
What can we do besides the e-mails and phone calls?
Anyone with stock in the MSM organizations (or their parent organizations--SELL it!) Are there any other ideas?
