Marine accused of wrongful shooting needs our help...
16 nov 04 | Atlanta

Posted on 11/16/2004 4:34:34 AM PST by Atlanta

I'm going to start with a communication of support of this young Marine, to the Commandant of the Marine Corps himself. Then, President Bush and my Senator/Congressman.They are going to hear from me and I have all friggin day to do it. I am so livid about this that words cannot describe. As a former Marine myself, this young "Leather" was doing what he was trained to do, adapting to unreasonable circumstances (enemy tricks) and he did exactly what I would have done and what has always been done with a fanatical enemy. If authorities hang this Marine out to dry, I will never stop raising hell and will become a point man for pulling these guys out of theater entirely...MSM is SICK. Other suggestions?

I am furious over the fact that they report this, yet I did not hear one word last night on the evening news about the dismembered body of the woman they found...I often think that this "embedded" reporting is like shooting ourselves in the foot. It keeps me awake at night to think that their idea of "reporting" is nothing more than some sick distortion of ALL the facts...

Bless you, a fantastic letter you wrote to the reporter.

I wonder if this reporter gets a bonus check for the film being a "Hot" piece. Whatever, I agree completely with your letter. Our young men and women are sacrificing many things to protect all of us. They may even die in doing so,there is no reason for them to be crucixfied for the ratings of a Network.

As somebody earlier up on the thread suggested, we would be even more effective if we CONTACTED NBC's ADVERTISERS with our displeasure. I don't know how to ascertain who is advertising on NBC News short of compiling a list by watching it though.

If enough FReepers are ticked off enough to do this, we could set some advertisers ears to burning, reminiscent of the SlimFast/Whoopee Goldberg effort. Which would catch even more attention from the NBC beancounters who hold the purse strings.

I'd assist in the effort.

I am definitely here to support the marines. That disagreeing with you speaks for the marines too is a hoot. You think highly of yourself.

The media is rotten to the core. That you do not have the wherewithal to perceive this is telling.

And if you are really here to support our military, you would not be sidetracking the flow of this thread to make a needless argument.

Well, I think this time the people have had enough. It's time to call these disgusting reporters on their lack of professionalism and their desire to harm others. This is gonna snowball but not in the way this disgusting reporter hpoed it would. It's gonna snowball on the reporter. Shame on him. Like I said earlier..."walk a mile in the shoes of this Marine or any other soldier" but...that would be impossible cause NO REPORTER could ever fit into the shoes of any of our American Soldiers. Not today...not EVER!!!!!

How many Al Queda training and recruiting tapes will show this footage to young recruits? How many terrorist will be made? How do we win the public relations battle with Iraqi's on the ground when they see this type of video?

Terrorists were targeting children in Beslan. Al-Quaida could care less if we fight a "nice" war. They hate us no matter how we fight it. While we do try, do you really think fighting a civilized war it will matter to them?

When Abu Ghraib happened I remember reading what an Iraqi said after President Bush apologized. He said at least we were sorry for it, Saddam Hussein would have rewarded it. These people have been terrorized by the insurgents. Many of them know what's going on and aren't stupid.

Al-Jazzera makes up 99% of the stuff they report anyway. I know, because I have a friend in Baghdad stationed at Camp Victory. We (US) are constantly trying to get Al-J and Al-Arabyia to print retractions or corrections after we check their stories and find they are "misreporting" as she calls it. I call it lying. And they refuse to do it. They don't care about the truth.

And when trying to clean up a country where the Terrorists don't go off the Geneva Convention rules of War:

The Marine who shot the Iraqi man had reportedly been returned to duty after suffering a minor facial wound Friday.

About a block away, a Marine was killed and five others wounded by a booby-trapped body they found in a house after a shootout with insurgents.

The human rights organization Amnesty International raised concerns about violations of the rules of war last week, after a British news program broadcast video of what it said was the killing of another wounded insurgent by U.S. troops.

Amnesty also noted reports that insurgents have used mosques as fighting positions, and in one incident appear to have used a white flag to lure Marines into an ambush.

What kind of crap is this? First off Amnesty Intl. needs to realize that the people they are trying to protect would rather put a bullet in their head than talk to them. Secondly, if your buddies have been blown up by supposedly "dead" terrorists, they have lured squads into ambush by faking using Geneva Convention provisions, they only found these same wounded terrorists in the mosque but someone was firing on Marines from the mosque...hmmm I wonder who was pulling the trigger in there.

Sorry this is just stupid. NCIS will get to the bottom of this, the Marine will be acquitted. I agree that we still need to abide by the Geneva Convention, so I guess if we come across any enemy bunkers/buildings/strongholds/just call in an air strike and demolish the place so our ground troops don't have to deal with this type of garbage.

There was a link to it on their website this morning with a warning of Graphic Violence. When I clicked the link, it stated you had to have real-pass to view, but to my knowledge, they've not done the same for the be-heading videos, etc. Also, on headline news last night, I saw snippets of the video, but not the entire thing, but I didn't watch the entire segment either.

You said it. This time the people are fired up. Enough is enough. Already I heard on TV this mornign people discussing Condi Rice and the Sec of State position. Jumping on her right away. It's disgusting. This is what lost Kerry the electiion (besides his total incapability to be Commander-in-Chief...thank GOD) the constant badgering and bashing and negativity against our President. It's so old hat and it's getting more than tiring. Bash, Bash, Bash our President and now one of our troops. Maybe they stepped on it this time with this story. You know the old saying: "Be careful what you wish for.." Well, maybe this reporter is thinking twice now. I cannot express the disgust I have with this person. Anything for a headline. Amazing. Oh well, now he can live with this big story. Journalism is not what it used to be and journalists are not what they used to be.

In a heated war environment, this is a no call. He's not at home sitting on his lazy boy watching football and gets mad at his wife because she doesn't get beer for him out of the fridge fast enough.

Here in Wisconsin, that situation (football/frig) would probably get him "off" faster by a jury of his peers than the war situation! ha-ha, just kidding, but scary thought

I agree with you that the MSM is going to "blow" this thing up and we must stand by our troops. Hell, if it wasn't for them we might be speaking German now.

I've being reading the posts and we need to understand that war is Hell. Period. We can not all be nice and friendly to the enemy. I read a report where this Marine was wounded in the face the day before. And, Marines have been Killed by bombs under dead bodies. So, you do what you have to do, and protect yourself first so you can protect others.

I will start emailing Kevin Sites about his remarks. We can not allow the MSM to try and turn this into another Abu-Grahib.

Wasn't this hero shot in the face the day before and insisted on returning to duty the next day.

The Marines are going door to door in a savage street fight with guerillas and the MSM wants them to be neutered like state troopers. If that's going to be the case don't send them in at all. Just level the place from 25,000 feet(which I advocate by the way).

Agreed, I have often advocated getting back at the MSM through their advertisers. It seems the only truth or loyalty the MSM understands now days is their pocketbook. a 1000, 5000, or more letters to the advertisers , say P & G as an example. Would have exec's sweating.

So you figure we might as well just shoot anything that moves? Sheesh.

...insure [sic] that this Marine and his comrades come home safe and in one piece...

Your reasoning is ridiculous; the conditional you set up can't be the sole determiner for our actions. Sending him back to the states would ensure he comes home safe, but it would be absolutely stupid and wouldn't accomplish the mission. Dropping the moral high ground would also not accomplish the mission, so it's also stupid to do.

The proper approach is to adapt our approach to address the enemy's methods, but not compromise ourselves or our mission in the process.
