Marine accused of wrongful shooting needs our help...
16 nov 04 | Atlanta

Posted on 11/16/2004 4:34:34 AM PST by Atlanta

I'm going to start with a communication of support of this young Marine, to the Commandant of the Marine Corps himself. Then, President Bush and my Senator/Congressman.They are going to hear from me and I have all friggin day to do it. I am so livid about this that words cannot describe. As a former Marine myself, this young "Leather" was doing what he was trained to do, adapting to unreasonable circumstances (enemy tricks) and he did exactly what I would have done and what has always been done with a fanatical enemy. If authorities hang this Marine out to dry, I will never stop raising hell and will become a point man for pulling these guys out of theater entirely...MSM is SICK. Other suggestions?

FOX and Friends covered this fairly this AM. Told about the details, how he was injured the day before, fellow Marines killed by booby-trapped bodies, etc. Edie was pissed at the unfair reporting of the story by others. Then ABC radio news reported last hour that the solider shot an unarmed, injured Iraqi insurgent who had surrendered. Nothing else -- no details, no explanation. The MSM is lower than low, beneath pond scum.

Just talked to a very nice young man in Marines PR. They are getting lots of phone calls this morning!! I asked he what we could do to help get the embedded reporters out of Iraq. He said actually they have proved to be beneficial most of the time. He suggested we notify MSM and Congress to voice our displeasure at how this news story was handled......I assured him we would. He was most appreciative of our support -- told him the internet was buzzing this morning in support of this young Marine as well as all our troops. I suggested that a new procedure of having the reporters be the ones to check "injured" terrorists to see if they're bomb-free might be in order. He appreciated that! EVERYONE CALL NOW - LET THE MARINES KNOW WE SUPPORT THEIR ACTIONS.

It appears to me the words on the tape vindicate the young Marine, as someone is recorded saying the guy was "faking death." Since faking death and boobytrapping bodies is SOP with the terrorists, it was a reasonable assumption to conclude that the guy was faking it.

If the young Marine who shot him BELIEVED the terrorist was feigning death, as the video records, then he made the right decision. It was a reasonable conclusion to make, and a judgement call, and the young Marine should be cleared - period.

Case closed.

I also think this young Marine is getting slimed in the press, and I support him. My prayers are with him and his family.

Sorry. You are wrong. The embedded reporter idea was and is brilliant. There are many images and stories we have had documented in real time thanks to those reporters.

Just as you wouldn't take the rogue Abu Ghraib idiot guards as representative of all of our troops, don't take your umbrage with Sites out on all the other reporters.

In addition, by doing so, he gives equality to those who would say it's alright to shoot wounded Americans.

The best way to prevent bad guys from shooting wounded Americans is to kill a lot of bad guys in return. Hindering the military in doing their job gives equality to those who mean us harm

No, I do not condem him. The tape does that.

My point is, let's not spend our PR ammunition calling for support before an investigation is complete.

I agree with you.

People have to remember that we must keep the moral high ground...otherwise, what justification can we give for kicking in doors and blowing up innocent peoples' homes?!?* (I.e., then we'd be no better than Janet Reno or the BATF!) <G>

*Before anyone says, "but they aren't innocent, they're terrorists"...I'm talking about those who are innocent civilians, stuck in this mess because of these insurgent creeps.

Old Media is the same people who thought the IDF bulldozer ran Rachel Corrie over on purpose. They like to assume the worst. They also don't understand war with terrorists. Remember the 9 year old boy who led some IDF soldiers into a trap in Jenin? You don't know what you are dealing with.

Every photographs is hoping for the shot that gets him the Pulitzer. Remember the shot of the VC being shot in the head, .....still shown today.

I hope this slimeball Sikes is escorted to Baghdad and put on the first flight out.

We don't need reporters and photographers with personal success agendas, following our warrior heroes. Didn't we learn anything from Abu Gharib?

I agree - we need to support this Marine, doing what he was trained to do.

So Sites turned it over to Reuters...

The "JERK..F" probably got paid a bonus for it. He thinks he has recorded a nobel moment. His aid to the enemy is on a par with Kerry and Fonda.

I hate to see this young Marine getting nailed on this. didn't he realize there was a camara recording the event? He should have shouted gun, before he openned up.

Email I just sent to my congressman:

My letter to you concerns the NBC video, shown first
by Reuters News Service of the apparent shooting of an
Iraqi by a US Marine.

My request to you is simple and two-fold:

One, that you request that any investigation of this
incident be handled by the Marine Corps. We have the
highest standards and pride in our professionalism,
and can be counted on to get to the bottom of this
incident completely and honestly.

Two, I respectfully request that your office use its
influence to ensure that Mr. Kevin Sites, by nature of
his having given the video of the incident to a
foreign news service before showing it to DOD
officials, lose his DOD credentials to report on this
war and be immediately and permanently banned from the
embed program.

"He didn't think, and in my opinion he committed murder by shooting an unarmed man."

. . .murder and an 'unarmed man' is where I disagree with you.

That he was not 'thinking'. . .perhaps; and the more trained our soldiers are; and find themselves in circumstances such as this - with an enemy who adheres to no code - no convention; then the less they 'think'; the better.

Being thoughtful; has cost many soldiers in same situation their lives.

This is not murder IMHO. . .it is WAR.

This MSM slimeball would be singing a different tune if the wounded terrorist had a grenade tucked under him and whipped it out. The Marine was right to kill the enemy where he lay.

These guys are screwed whichever way they go over there. If they fight the way the MSM wants them to, they would die in the streets, and their deaths would be used to batter the President. If they fight the way they need to in order to win, the MSM yells about our troops killing the enemy.

Any way you cut it, the MSM is the problem. Time to put the commie bastards out of business, and protect our men and women in uniform and in harms way.

moral high ground...

This is friggin' WAR! The only "moral high ground" is surviving and seeing that your buddies (as many as possible) survive. If popping a cap in this punk-ass terrorist help to insure that this Marine and his comrades come home safe and in one piece, then by all means SHOOT THE BASTARD!

Moral high ground ... sheesh!
