Buchanan calls Condi neocon

Posted on 11/15/2004 7:17:37 PM PST by politicsfan

Pat Buchanan is on Scarbourgh country and has called Condi Rice a neocon instead of a conservative. What is a neoconservative? How is a neocon different from a conservative (in what views)?

"He's a good rabble rouser and everyone needs their rabbled roused now and again. Frankly, I'm sick of writers who can't work up a good head of steam. Breslin is gone. Crouch is good, but still not enough. Brooks writes like a strip mall accountant. And Dowd is just moronic. I say, bring it on Pat!"

Whatever Buchanan may be now, we should all be thankful for what he did for the conservative movement when it most mattered. He was, with Reagan, one of the catalysts in the 80's fight against liberal socialism. Go ahead, flame my ass, but anyone who discredits Pat Buchanan's contributions to the conservative cause is either to young to remember those contributions, or too stupid to recognize them.

The term neocon is used in the perjorative quite a bit.

It sure is. .....and used by different people/groups for different reasons. Many liberals now use it to describe all pro-military Republicans. Others use it to describe pro-Israel Republicans. Still others use it to describe only Jewish Republicans (regardless of how many generations they or their families have voted GOP, or the specifics of their views). And still others use it to describe pro-"choice", open borders / unrestricted free trade advocating, and big-gov't / big-spending Republicans.

So it's no wonder many are confused about the definition of the word.

Better not to use it at all.

So from reading the Wikipedia definition, in the area of Foreign Policy the neocons are the good guys.........

............but let's keep the neocon's fingers out of the Budget and Social policy pies. Smaller government and dissolving entitlements seem to be the Paleocon creed.

So I must be a neocon on Foreign policy and a paleocon on domestic policy.

You're saying that Buchanan is a racist by using this term.

wrong, I said "Buchanan uses the term neocon like racists use the term "n*gger"."

The fact that he is a racist is exclusive of the way he uses the term neocon which you usually find associated with prominent jews.

Pat is actually a pretty bright guy.

He has somehow entrenched himself into his  Xenophobic posture. It is confounding to me that Pat cannot seem to understand that global politics and reality have changed during the course of the 2 centuries since  the American Revolution.

He probably read "Beyond 30" a few too many times when he was a kid.

I have always thought paleoconservative is a conservatism that is like contemporary liberalism, rejects the idea of America per se.

It is also of interest that in most other Western countries the paleocon movement is much stronger than in the US (here in New Zealand the paleocons currently enjoys 5% upport: at their peak they had 28% support in 1996. Their leader, Winston Peters, once became Deputy Prime Minister between 1996 and 1998). You have the usual centrists and RINOs, then it is a mighty jump to paleocons.

"You got that right Buchanan is a racist, and although Condi is black, Pat would really hate her if she was jewish."

That's wrong also, as I see it. The only hate I see here is your hate for Patrick Buchanan.

Pat's overall view of Yasser Arafat and the West Bank/Gaza situation has worn me down to the point that I think it would be best if he just withdrew from the public stage.

The causes worth fighting that he still supports will do nothing but suffer if he advocates them from here on out.

It's a real shame. At one point the guy was articulate and reasoned. Today he is neither.

Pat, I've been a supporter when few others stood with you. You are your own worst enemy.

Along those lines, the Irving Kristol, founder of neoconservatism, was once a Trotskyite communist.

Well actually, I think he's right. Condi may be a brilliant woman, but she is part of the Global Elite, being a member of the Council on Foreign Relations. She's is replacing Powell, who is also a CFR member--so the internationalist bandwagon will continue its march to eventually erode American sovereignty.
