Anyone with any sense knows the makers of the unpleasant children's movie "Polar Express" were foolish to unload it just days after the release of the excellent, can't-miss animated hit "The Incredibles." But some in Tinseltown seem eager to lose money.
The good news about the failure of "Polar Express," already being nicknamed "Polar Distress," is that it's hurting Bush-bashing fat cat Steve Bing, one of those left-wing tycoons who tried to buy the presidential election for John Kerry. Bing put up half the money for "Polar Distress" (the rest came from the Democrat media leviathan Time Warner) and squandered $14 million to try to defeat the president.
The movie cost $170 million to make and $125 million to distribute and market, the Wall Street Journal reported today. It has brought in only $31 million so far, compared with $144 million for the deserving "Incredibles."
More fun facts about ding-a-ling Bing: Fellow Bush-hating leftist Sean Penn is suing him. Penn claims producer Bing blacklisted him after that little photo op in Baghdad to support genocidal maniac Saddam Hussein.
Note to "Polar Distress" star Tom Hanks, reeling from flop No. 3 this year and scheduled to appear in the Catholic-bashing "Da Vinci Code": Audiences prefer you when you speak your lines and do not like you when you shout your lines.
I saw it also this weekend. It is a good movie, I really enjoyed it. You should check it out you'll be pleasantly surprised.
What age is that appropriate for?
I'll wait until it is free on TV. I'm glad you liked it, but it sounds like most people think its a dud.
What sort of work did you do on the movie?
ROFL.
Yeah, I guess we're all supposed to watch Passion of the Christ on continuous loop and only listen to Toby Keith albums, according to those types.
Zemeckis is hit or miss with me.
I'll catch this one on DVD.
Really? ...you did a great job, me and my son really enjoyed it and I plan on buying it once it's for sale.
I read this to 3rd graders last year, and it was a wonderful experience!
You are still at it huh? Man, why are you so angry and bitter?
Go to the movie, you might get rid of that inner scrooge.
305 million to make, distribute and market? How can anyone make a sensible business case for such an investment? It was doomed to be a flop with such over-the-top costs. My daughter and I went to see it and she liked the movie, but come on, did they think this would top Star Wars or Spiderman?
Have you seen "The Incredibles"? I'm wondering how it compares to "The Polar Express". My family loved "The Incredibles". My kids ranked it right up with the Harry Potter and Star Wars movies.
I'm beginning to miss realism in children's movies. Toy Story, The Incredibles, Finding Nemo notwithstanding, I would rather take my children to a Christmas classic that isn't animated. There's too much of it out there now, and no matter what one may say, you can't get true human emotion, especially that of a child's, through an animated face. There's no match for the face of a real child to touch the heart.
I liked the animated version of The Grinch who Stole Christmas, but the Jim Carrey version totally stunk. The Cat in the Hat movie also smelled like a litterbox. Sometimes a great book does not turn into a great movie, even with tons of money and talent.
Yeah...painted everything in the bedroom and living room...Chris' clothes, Santa's clothes, the engineers, and a bunch of other stuff.
It really bothers me when people trash something they haven't even seen and know nothing about. We should be happy Hollywood is putting out family films like this. We should do everything in our power to promote family films like this so they will keep making them.
Some people on this thread have to always have something to complain about (and you know who you are!!!) I'm sorry they are so unhappy. They should get in the spirit of Christmas or the ghost of Christmas past, present and future will come to visit the scrooges!
OMG I loved Jim Carrey as the Grinch! I can't tell you how many times we've watched it. Now the cat in the hat, I hated that story. Is prolly the only Dr.Suess that I can't stand, it was sooooo boring.
I usually skip going to the theaters because why pay $7.50 - $9.50 to see a movie when you can purchase the good ones for about $15 - $17 or rent from netflix for about $2 - $3 on average depending on how fast you return them.
"Everyone who has actually SEEN the film on the thread thinks it's great.
Everyone who hasn't actually seen the film thinks it's terrible. "
So that tells me that their marketing sucks.
You did a great job!
I took my 4 and 8 year olds to see it this weekend. They loved it. I wanted to stay home and watch the Aurburn/Gerogia game but I had promised my wife to take them. Didn't think I'd like it but it was very, very good.
Made it to a restaurant with 15 minutes left in the game. Sat by the tv!
Me too. It is hilarious.
WHAT A BOMB!
