Anonymous resigns from CIA
* Says will now serve the national interest by talking publicly about Bin Laden and 9/11-Commission Report
WASHINGTON: A CIA analyst who wrote a book criticising the US war on terror resigned from the spy agency after it banned him from publicly discussing his views, his publicist said on Thursday.
Michael Scheuer wrote the book Imperial Hubris: Why the West Is Losing the War on Terror under the pen name anonymous and formally resigned from the intelligence agency on Friday, after 22 years of service.
In a statement to the press, Scheuer said that he blamed senior US leadership for allowing intelligence officers working against Osama Bin Laden to be made scapegoats for pre-Sept intelligence failures. He went on to say that while the CIA did not force his resignation, he concluded that there had been no national debate over the nature of the threat posed by Bin Laden and his supporters and that the intelligence agency needed reforming to address that threat.
Scheuer was chief of the CIA Counterterrorist Centre unit which focused on Bin Laden from 1996 to 1999 and remained a CIA analyst after that.
The December issue of The Atlantic Monthly published an open letter by Scheuer to US congressional intelligence committees in which he said that the key pre-Sept 11 intelligence failures were mainly the result of bad decisions by senior officials.
He said that while the 9/11 attacks were probably unpreventable, decisions made by senior officials showing arrogance, bad judgment, disdain for expertise, and bureaucratic cowardice had meant that the intelligence community did not operate optimally to defend America.
In June, prior to his books publication, Scheuer appeared in a series of media interviews, appearing on TV in silhouette and identified in print as Mike.
In the first week of August, CIA officials told him that he had to ask for advance permission before engaging in interviews as well as providing them with summaries of what would be discussed, Scheuers editor and publicist Christina Davidson said. She added that the CIA rejected every request, effectively banning him from speaking on the subject.
Scheuers book claimed that the United States was losing the war against terrorism and that current policies would strengthen its enemies in the Islamic world. would only make its enemies in the Islamic world grow stronger.
A statement released by his publicist said that following a cordial meeting with senior CIA officials on Tuesday, Scheuer decided that it his resignation would serve the interest of the intelligence community and the nation by allowing him to continue speaking publicly about Bin Laden, Al Qaeda and the 9/11-Commission Report.
The CIA made no comment. Scheuer is scheduled to appear on the CBS show 60 Minutes on Sunday. reuters

This guy sounds to me like he was"Part of The Problem"!!!!
That's right!Isn't there some kind of an agreement that would preclude someone like this from"spilling his guts"under pain of prosecution by the government???
Well, let's see.....Scheuer failed miserably in his own job; CIA is infested with leftists; Scheuer probably has an axe to grind, or at the very least a book to sell; this is being flogged on CBS which, as we all know, has enormouse credibility problems. I think I'll just watch The Simpsons.....
I have a feeling that this A**HOLE is going to SLAM"W",and that's why CBS is putting him on!!!!!
RIGHT ON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
How very SHREWD of you!!
You can bet that this "CIA" specialist won't say anything to damage the democrats, even though they are the ones who dropped the ball, cut inteligence budgets, politicized the organization, and failed to get Osama when they had him.
But it will attack Bush, even though he was barely in office when 9/11 happened, and had retained most of Clintons appointee's. Bush is getting the place cleaned out, but it's not going to happen overnight, it takes years to undo and remake what it took Clinton ten years to destroy.
And being on See? B.S, we can bet what slant it will have. I won't bother to watch it, it will be on MSM headlines for a week afterwards. What I will watch for is if the guy gets arrested. I sure hope so. These people have done enogh damage to the nation already, time to pay for their treason.
Hows about we stand him up in front of a wall?
Clearly there are specific rules against spilling the beans for former CIA employees that can carry severe criminal punishment.
So, it is more likely that the previous book and his appearance on 60 minutes would have some kind of official approval. Misinformation perhaps. Outing the Clintonistas including Tenet. A declaration of war against Bush.
We'll have to see what he says.
But the rules clearly did not stop Richard Clarke from spouting either and endangering national security.
Looking the OTHER WAY?????
But SeeBS is giving him 4x that tonight.
This sounds like another Democrat/CBS collaboration designed to undermine Bush.
Can't wait to see if CBS has improved its forgery skills. I am sure that CBS will do its best to "balance" its smear job by parading the lamest "other side" point-of-view spokesman they can find. That is, if they bother with the "other side" at all.
Dulles is rolling in his grave over these disloyal self-serving trolls.
so will he be later found floating in the potomac river as was former cia director colby?
that was so funny: one day in the los angeles times, p. a30+ there was a small story about how the former director was missing from his vacation home. he was writing a book.
a couple of days later, also on the back pages of the a-section, his body was found floating in the potomac near by!
it was if the river had stopped flowing for several days.
Amen. It took the Dums decades to emasculate the CIA. 30 years of damage takes a few years to fix. These leftie parasites that have afixed themselves to the agencies body, better decide to retire. The times they are a changin'
Pray for W and Our Troops
I am honestly curious what these people think getting out of Iraq or doing something different would actually do. For example, what in the world could a former CIA analyst or a Michael Moore really think in his or her comfortable home here in the States about the discovery of a dismembered and disemboweled woman with a disfigured face that just happens to have long blonde hair and has been deemed Western? Or the now numerous beheadings? Do these people really think that negotiations or payoffs or appeasement will change terrorists' opinions one iota?
It's as though nay-sayers are not only not with the program, they don't have the program or can't read it, or they are living in Disney World somewhere between the France and Germany buildings. This is a truly frightening prospect. How in the world could I expect them to defend my back when everything they say--and do--indicates otherwise?
Not only do I not understand their thinking, I am to the point of not wanting to anymore. If they want to move, in the spirit of Scroose, let them decrease the population and do so, and quickly, so I can prepare to defend myself if necessary.
