WASHINGTON, Nov. 11 /U.S. Newswire/ -- Judie Brown, president of American Life League, issued the following statement in response to news that White House Counsel Alberto Gonzales is being considered as the replacement for U.S. Attorney General John Ashcroft:
"President Bush appears to be doing all that he can to downright ignore pro-life principles. There can be no other explanation for his recommendation of Alberto Gonzales as attorney general. Gonzales has a record, and that record is crystal clear.
"As a Texas Supreme Court justice, Gonzales' rulings implied he does not view abortion as a heinous crime. Choosing not to rule against abortion, in any situation, is the epitome of denying justice for an entire segment of the American population -- preborn babies in the womb.
"When asked if his own personal feelings about abortion would play a role in his decisions, Gonzales told the Los Angeles Times in 2001 that his 'own personal feelings about abortion don't matter... The question is, what is the law, what is the precedent, what is binding in rendering your decision. Sometimes, interpreting a statute, you may have to uphold a statute that you may find personally offensive. But as a judge, that's your job.' Gonzales' position is clear: the personhood of the preborn human being is secondary to technical points of law, and that is a deadly perspective for anyone to take.
"President Bush claims he wants to assist in bringing about a culture of life. Such a culture begins with total protection for every innocent human being from the moment that person's life begins. Within the short period of one week, the president has been silent on pro-abortion Sen. Arlen Specter's desire to chair the senate judiciary committee, and has spoken out in favor of a judge with a pro-abortion track record to lead the Justice Department.
"Why is President Bush betraying the babies? Justice begins with protecting the most vulnerable in our midst. Please, Mr. President -- just say no to the unjust views of Alberto Gonzales."

On this point i agree with Ann Coulter, and against david Limbaugh.
See post #42.
Will President Bush send Gonzales as a nominee when an opening in the US Supreme Court happens? Knowing their relationship....I'd say YES!!!
Then the law must be changed..and only Congress can change the law..or that is how it used to be before activist judges started legislating from the bench.
Uh-oh, it looks like someone hasn't actually read the key plaintiff's argument from Roe v. Wade.
Under common law, this event is a prerequisite to being a "person." Please state your answer in the form of a question.
(Cue Final Jeopardy music).
No. There are more issues to deal with than this one.
Absolutely.
Not necessarily. But, then again, it would be difficult to see the President and Congress do what Lincoln was willing to do. Lincoln basically told the SCOTUS to "shove it", and set aside their ruling.
Of course, this in part, led to civil war.
It appears that you feel that the justices, when it comes to an issue such as this, should vote morally. Is this correct?
So number 3 Bush pick thrown out by conservatives?
I'm really glad the president isn't the right wing extremist the left tried to portray him as and some here apparently hope he is.
In regard to parental consent, TWO lower court rulings stated a girl in question did not meet the conditions for a judicial bypass. Yet, Alberto Souter and friends overturned those court decisions and intrepreted and reduced judicial bypass to the lowest possible standard.
I am not saying they should stop teaching about sex, they don't have to be so graphic, and yes I think abstinence will help to stop kids from having sex. There seems to be a notion that sex is fine go to it....
Here's another issue I'm concerned about.
Barely a week has passed since 84 percent of the nation's self-described conservatives cast their ballots for George W. Bush, and already the president and his administration have delivered at least two good, strong, swift kicks in the teeth to the voters who elected him. Speaking in Mexico this week Secretary of State Colin Powell acknowledged that the administration will revive its amnesty plan for illegal aliens, and in Washington Hispanic White House counsel Alberto Gonzales was named as the next attorney general.
Uh-oh, someone has not thought this through very logically, or he would know his response in no way refutes my statement.
Judie Brown is unappeasable. I'm glad Bush is not going to dance to her tune.
Under common law, this event is a prerequisite to being a "person." Please state your answer in the form of a question.
Please note: this is the second time I've asked.
It's a fundamental defect in common law has to be addressed in statutory law.
i'm really glad that we who have common sense, believe in original meaning and protecting innocent persons from being murdered are not the extremists. Those who think such murder should be protected are the extremists.
Leave us alone! We're busy cutting off our noses. Be gone with you!
Ummm ... Gonzales is pro-life.
He refused to make a court ruling that would be overruled by USSC or to be an activist and overrule the legislature.
And the continued whine about Toomey and Specter shows that you are out of touch with party politics - the party machinery does not take down its own incumbents.
Yay for one-issue people!
/ end sarcasm
LOL thats about the size of it.
