In several states, women considering abortion are given government-issued brochures warning that the procedure could increase their chance of developing breast cancer, despite scientific findings to the contrary.
More than a year ago, a panel of scientists convened by the National Cancer Institute reviewed available data and concluded there is no link. A scientific review in the Lancet, a British medical journal, came to the same conclusion, questioning the methodology in studies that suggested a link.
The cancer information is distributed to women during mandatory waiting periods before abortions. In some cases, the information is on the states' Web sites.
"We're going to continue to educate the public about this," said Karen Malec, president of the Coalition on Abortion/Breast Cance, an anti-abortion group. She dismissed the National Cancer Institute's findings as politically motivated and maintained that the link has been scientifically proven.
The effort to write the issue into state law began in the mid-1990s, when a few studies suggested women who had abortions or miscarriages might be more likely to develop breast cancer. The warnings are now required in Texas and Mississippi, and health officials in Kansas and Louisiana voluntarily issue them.
What about depression and suicide?
Headline by the same writer who gave us this one: Americans wrongly warned 9-11/Saddam tied.
Killing a living person growing inside a woman's body is bad for the woman? Who'lda thunk it!
What about spiritual suicide? Hiring a serial killer to kill your alive child within isn't an affirming exercise, PP-hood, NARAL, and the NOW hags notwithstanding.
There's no link? Thank GOODNESS! Now I can have the abortion I've always wanted! /sarcasm
Meanwhile, breast cancer rates keep rising and no one knows why.....
It INFURIATES me that the feminazis and BABYKILLERS and babykilling advocates insist on keeping this information from the general public, and particularly from women in a position to have to make that choice. I hope they rot in hell with visions of dying babies screaming in their heads for eternity.
Check out this site. There's a wealth of factual information and enlightenment:
bump
I saw a report at one time that showed the results of about 30 studies, about five-sixths of which proved a link. Can't find it now.
But yet they claim global warming is because of fossil fuel usage, despite scientific evidence otherwise.
Bump.
They are spinning to they can sell more contraceptives, etc. perform more abortions.
"Whoso shall receive one such little child in my name receiveth me. Whoso shall offend one of these little ones which believe in me, it were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and that he were drowned in the depth of the sea." (Matthew 18:5-6)
Sooner or later these unfortunate people are going to have to come to hideous grips with what they have done.
What's the problem?
It depends whom you believe. Numerous studies have shown that there is a link. These days scientists will lie at the drop of a hat if they have a political agenda or a good grant. And as a rule it's the politically correct side that lies most assiduously.
No more than post-partum depression...
It's really unreal that some groups are stooping so low as to give false information!
I hope they'll be sued!
Well, setting the rhetoric aside, this is lying to the woman... The rest is your opinion, not shared by either the law or the majority of people!
I wonder if the women who had abortions also had the BRAC1 or BRAC2 gene mutation. That could possible explain why 30 yr olds are getting breast cancer.
My mother-in-law is an oncological nurse, and she said there are more women in their thirties being treated with Chemo than older women.
I shudder.
