WASHINGTON (Talon News) -- Congressman Tom Tancredo (R-CO) on Monday expressed his dismay over a "media blackout" on coverage of the newly passed immigration reform measure Proposition 200 in Arizona.
"Arizona's Proposition 200 marks a milestone in the battle for common sense immigration reform," said Tancredo, chair of the Congressional Immigration Reform Caucus.
"I am disappointed -- but not surprised -- by the lack of media attention dedicated to the passage of this measure that the media and political establishments staunchly opposed." Tancredo continued.
Arizona voters approved the initiative last week by a vote of 56%-44%. The measure was supported at the polls by 47% of Latino voters.
The measure is aimed at keeping illegal immigrants from voting in elections and preventing them from receiving some government services.
Under Proposition 200, voters would be required to show proof of citizenship to register to vote and again to actually cast a ballot. Citizenship would also have to be verified before an applicant could receive welfare or other state social services.
"The abject failure of the federal government to address the problem of illegal immigration has finally prompted Arizona voters to say 'enough is enough,'" Tancredo continued.
The congressman went on to predict, "[M]ore 'Prop 200's' across the country are sure to follow if Congress doesn't step up to the plate and take [th]is issue on."
Even though passed by a clear majority of Arizona voters, there is a possibility that the Arizona Taxpayer and Citizen Protection Act will never become law.
Any law that affects voter's rights must be approved by the Civil Rights Division of the U.S. Department of Justice to ensure it conforms to the Voting Rights Act of 1965.
Court challenges to the measure are also expected.
Kathy McKee, chairwoman of the Protect Arizona Now group that circulated petitions to put the measure on the ballot, told the Tucson Citizen that the group would not disband.
"We're going to hang in there to make sure it's really over," McKee said.

Did he ever get 30,000 those write in votes?
Is it possible that this hasn't received a lot of negative publicity because even the Judy Wooodruff crowd can't find a way to spin it?

No, you're not. This is simply a proposition to enforce voting laws into compliance to ensure that only American citizens are voting in American elections.
Kinda simple, isn't it?

Any other time I'd read this and think "We're going to the dogs," but not now. I think a LOT of people like me who aren't hardright religous conservatives (but ARE conservatives) are suddenly starting to think "Actually there's hope now."
It won't stop em from trying though. You may not be able to cash a check, drive a car, buy cigarettes or alcohol, get on an airplane, or go through virtually any federal government building's security checkpoint these days without a photo ID, but heaven forbid we tell somebody they have to show one to cast a vote! If one were to believe the Mary Frances Berry's and Jesse Jacksons of the world there must be tens of millions of blacks and mexicans in the United States who don't have any photo IDs and thus cannot do any of the perfectly common and routine aforementioned things. Of course we all know the real motive behind that argument: they want illegal alien lawbreakers to vote just like the want felons to vote because they know illegal alien lawbreakers and felons will favor Democrats.
Seriously, for a party that supposedly prides itself on "intellectual" candidates like John Kerry, the Democrats sure do have a way of attracting votes from the dumbest of the dumb (i.e. people who cannot even find a photo ID), the trashiest of the trash (i.e. the covetted prison vote), and flagrant abusers of the laws of this country (i.e. illegal aliens).

Bush can't be too "unhappy" with Tancredo that he chairs the committee. If Bush didn't want him in there, T would not be there, period.
Osama bin Laden : The "Pancho Villa" of Islam - Osama bin Laden - a modern day Francisco (Pancho) Villa Mexican hero.
La Voz de Aztlan - Get a peek into what some Mexicans really think about issues of interest to many Americans. The site has many articles on similar subjects that could be deemed anti-American and support for what Americans considers terrorism groups and terrorist causes.
The Mexican government turned that down. They believe they override the American people.
It's possible that because GWB got a mandate without either party having to deal with the invasion issue and protecting US jobs, culture, and economic independence that we're going to get Vincente Fox's agenda for the US.
The Dems obviously didn't want to win too badly. This issue would've gotten them a few states.
Maybe we should start a political party in time for the 2006 HOR voting. I'm serious...we all run in our districts. Here in MA, the candidates Romney gave us would've been worse that what we have, if they'd won.
Best,
H2
Great men are never considered great in their time. History will record Tom Tancredo as one of America's greatest heros. I pray her never stops fighting the good fight.
