"Am I missing something here?"

No, you're not. This is simply a proposition to enforce voting laws into compliance to ensure that only American citizens are voting in American elections.

Kinda simple, isn't it?

I imagine their argument is that there are some folks who just "slip through the system", as if they were positive they were citizens and not applying for citizenship must have just slipped their mind, just a technicality, actually...

Any other time I'd read this and think "We're going to the dogs," but not now. I think a LOT of people like me who aren't hardright religous conservatives (but ARE conservatives) are suddenly starting to think "Actually there's hope now."

I was at the DMV here in Longmont, Co. yesterday and a Mexican gentleman sat down at the booth next to me wanting to register a car. The lady asked him for his driver's liscense and he pulls out a Matricular Consular card. She said "we don't accept those" and he said something to the effect that "they did in Arizona". He wanted to register a car that was in the police impound lot and for which he didn't have any insurance. Nice try. At least he was TRYING to obey our laws.
