Ok, we've got two years. We know we need to pick up at least 6 seats. Assuming that we won't have a 100% success rate, we should probably choose at least 8-10 Democrat (or independent) seats to work on.
We have seen that we can make a difference in the outcome of elections. Let's put ourselves to work and help get W a fillabuster proof Senate.
Again, I like her in her role as NSA -- Bush should spend more time listening to her, IMHO. She'd be fine at State. I just haven't seen what makes her Presidential material.
There are no changes that are going to happen on the Supreme Court in the next four years that will make for a sea-change on the legal status of abortion. It will continue to remain important to elect a President who is pro-life (and no Republican is going to get elected who isn't), and indeed to elect pro-life officials at every level of government.
I do like Keyes better than Condi, that's for sure.
Personally, I feel that if the appointments of Clarence Thomas, Colin Powell, and Rice (not to mention all of the other high-profile minorities in the Republican party) were unable to accomplish this, putting a black woman on the presidential ticket won't -- unless she isn't a conservative.
That's a very good point. Witness this as well, that the Black Community voted Bill Clinton entrance to the African American Hall of Fame, essentially naming him an "Honary African American!" More important than race to them is LIBERALISM.
I stand by my assessment that Rice is an obscure governmental bureaucrat by comparison to the public opinion about Ike circa 1950.
Well of course! Condi was never a General. Besides, those times were unique in that it was a much bigger world on the cusp of the technology boom that would create our smaller world today.
One thing is certain -- Clarence Thomas will never be in that Hall of Fame!
check...Alf out
Harkin and Baucus aren't up until 2008.
First of all, we need 60 votes to stop a filibuster, not 61.
Senate seats we should go after are Hillary's in NY (RUDY!), Bill Nelson's in FL (JEB!), Debbie Stabenow's in MI (Congressman Rogers, Congresswoman Miller or ex-Governor Engler should do the trick), Mark Dayton's in MN (Congressman Mark Kennedy), Ben Nelson's in NE (Governor Johanns) (although I think Ben Nelson will switch to the GOP next year), Maria Cantwell's in WA (Dino Rossi if he ends up falling short in the still-being-counted gubernatorial election; otherwise I don't know who), Mark Conrad's in ND (Governor Hoeven), Robert Byrd's (if he retires) in WV (maybe Congresswoman Capito or state Senator Jay Wolfe), Dianne Feinstein's in CA (Condi Rice?), Thomas Carper's in DE (Congressman Castle), Paul Sarbanes's (if he retires) in MD (Lt. Gov. Steele), Jon Corzine's in NJ (Steve Forbes or Congressman LoBiondo), Jeff Bingaman's in NM (Congresswoman Wilson?), Herbert Kohl's in WI (ex-Governor Thompson?), and Jim Jeffords's in VT (Governor Douglas).
"Let's knock out SD Senator Tim Johnson and go 2-for-2."
Limit myself to only three?????
How about any pubbie who signed off on or voted for any one or more of the following:
"No child left behind" (NOWHERE is FedGov authorized to be involved in education)
The prescription drug act (ditto for meds or medical care)
The TORRENT of spending NOT SPECIFICALLY AUTHORIZED in and by the Constitution,,, which accounts for probably 2/3 of the federal budget...
(how much more do you need???)
"Back to Condi Rice. She is the future of American conservatism and the best candidate to fill the post Bush vacuum and the best candidate to offset an expected reMADE Democratic Party that will be even more focused than ever."
"Don Carcieri for Senate in 2006!"
I would also point out that it is terribly important to contest every seat, every time.
Not only does failing to contest a seat allow a candidate to save up money for the next contest, not only does it allow the Dems the opportunity to shift money to other races nationally, it also allows state organizations to concentrate on other races.
The fact that the GOP didn't contest Baucus's seat in Montana two years ago, for instance, (Mark Racicot is the only guy who could have done it) allowed Baucus to divert lots of money into state and local races both in 2002 and this year.
As a result, the Dems cleaned the GOP's clock in Montana this year, and things are looking bleak for the immediate future -- Montana is a state that is in serious danger of becoming a swing state in a future presidential race if the party doesn't get its act together.
In 2010, Barack Obama, especially since the liberal (R)'s let him get in so easily. Of course by then he may be more interested in running for President
Right. He ran in 2002. I was thinking it was 2000.
I like the looks of that!
The Illinois GOP would seem to be in need of major overhaul before they are capable of fielding a conservative candidate who can put the hurt on Obama.
Probably so. I hope it happens. Until then, we're all stuck with Obama.
Thanks for reformatting my list. I didn't notice how unreadable it ended up being.
Thanks for the list. The next question is : what do we do with it?
