GRASSROOTSPA EXCLUSIVE: BOMBSHELL: SPECTER SLAMS CONSERVATIVES IN CAMPAIGN LETTER, ATTACKS PRO-LIFERS, CHRISTIANS
Some choice quotes:
-"I will not give up our Party to radical extremists without a fight."
-Calls Pat Robertson, Ralph Reed, and Pat Buchanan "extremists".
-"I resent people like Pat Robertson, Ralph Reed, and Pat Buchanan trying to give litmus tests to determine who can be a Republican candidate."
-"I want to strip the strident anti-choice language" from the GOP party plank.
-"Will you stand up to the far-right fringe that demands that legal abortion be banned?"
-"We must demonstrate that the Republican Party is made up of more that Pat Robertson, Jerry Falwell, Pat Buchanan, and Ralph Reed."
-Accuses the Christian Coalition of keeping people off the Republican ticket and blackmailing the Republican Party, slams Paul Weyrich of Free Congress Foundation
It's only a matter of days before the MSM will have us trashing Bush, Ashcroft, Rumsfeld, Rice, Powell ...
No offense intended, but this letter is nine years old and is simply not needed. Specter has recently said stuff just as outrageous and its currency gives it far more value. This might have meant something while he was running against Toomey, but now it's just old paper that only gives fuel to the dems to drive a wedge.
Just my opinion...

If I was running for office and my campaign staff tried to send out letters that looked that crappy I'd smack 'em upside the head.
OK General, the letter is real and you scanned it yourself. Where did you get it, when did you get it, and how did you get it?
I've seen the letterhead of several Senators before and none of them ever looked as crappy as that. The whole letter looks like it was printed on the worst printer ever made. No Presidential candidate would send a letter that crappy looking to people he's trying to persuade for donations.
I'm sorry but this really, really does look like a hack job. I'm not accusing you personally of anything but this just doesn't look right. Specter is scum, but this letter looks like crap.
Specter is a well know bort.
Why Specter quit: no room for middle ground in party
Specter, certainaly at the time, was working to disempower the religious right (whatever that is), in particular as "led" by Pat Robertson and Jerry Falwell. I'm sure he has no desire to hide that fact.
Gee.
Now that we know what he REALLY thinks!
This is HUGH!!!
See ya, RINO boy.
No, it's called pandering for the most votes. It's everyone's wish that government would stay out of our pockets and out of our bedrooms. Has nothing to do with being Liberal or Conservative or for that matter being a Libertarian
The heck with Arlan. Let's keep calling the Senate Juiidiciary committee members and ditch this louse. BTW, the Bush lead after Mil absentees is now 52-47 see USAToday for ref.
Personal loyalty is a conservative virtue, but not an absolute one. Specter needs to be loyal to the GOP base that put Bush into office and padded the majorities in both Houses of Congress. If he isn't, we need to call for his head, in no uncertain terms.
Aheesh. We are smarter than this. Why go wobbly? Need to put on more steam. Get them calls. e-mails, etc going
Thanks for the brain work!!!
I have put a similar post in every "Specter" thread these last two days.
How dare Arlen Specter launch this attack on people like me. He will portray all of us as dumb tools of the extremist right wing. He will insult us all and the MSM will eat it up.
I read what Specter said, I read his smarmy attempt to take it back. He thinks' we're stupid! I didn't need Laura Ingraham or anyone else to tell me to call my Senator, Saxby Chambliss to let my feelings be known.
I hadn't seen this before. Thanks for posting.
You're right, I looked at it again, it looks like a FRAUD.
Are they trying to set us up with a "memogate"?
Why go wobbly? I am not wobbly. I had called Senator Frist's office. I had emailed him as well as Senators Grassly and Kyl. I have also contacted several people I know to spread the word to impress on the senate leadership to not let Specter become Chairman of Judiciary. I am, like you, 100% committed to doing my small part to stop Specter.
It's for real. Look for some old stories of his campaign in 1996.
Specter's whole Presidential campaign was to get the pro-abortion GOP to back him.
