Just lately (noticeably since the US election result) there seems to be an awful lot of anti-British sentiment on here (there always was a little but I put that down to a handful of xenophobic kiddies)
What I would like to know is do most Freepers now share the low opinion that some (many) on here seem to have of our nation or is it just a small (but very vocal) minority of morons?
I've enjoyed this forum (for the relatively short time that I've contributed) and have always liked Americans in general, but I now find myself reconsidering my thoughts on both.
If we Brits are not liked or wanted around here, I think I'll probably discontinue my involvement.
I love the Brits. You guys rank about as high in my book as any non-coffee drinking nation possibly can. You are welcome and appreciated.
I think you're just seeing the fallout from the Guardian article.
If you really want to know how we feel, search previous posts for feedback on Thatcher's eulogy for Reagan. It's an honor to have you as friends.
(I had a couple of guys from Great Britain in my office this week . . . I could not help but notice their frequent references to "chaps" in our industry. LOL.)
"We've gawt ta run . . . we're meet-in a coupla chaps downtown this afta-noon."
We love Brits. Please continue to post and contribute. We Anglophones must stick together.
"Oh.....I thought you meant Brit Hume...."
you mean british humor ?? ;)
Oh and that little letter writing campaign by the Guardian did more bad PR for your nation than taxing the hell out of us without representation.
Other than that we love you.
Once you take the editors, reporters and writers over at the Guardian out back and flense them, with the flesh distributed to poor dogs throughout UK, all will be forgiven.
Seriously, some people around here forget to appreciate the many conservative friends we have in Europe and Canada. I had to defend our great Canadian friends on a thread too. Look, we get offended by the things others say about us, and then we react as though those people speak for everyone in the entire country. It's wrong and most of us know better. We need all the friends we can get so I hope you will stick around. Besides, you might need our help battling the liberals in your country one of these days. Conservatives of the world should unite!
My nana(grandma) is from England. I have relatives there.
She told me they hate Bush over there.
You can't judge a whole people because of their newspapers. The newspapers over there called me an idiot and that makes me angry.
I was always fond of the British...since I kinda am one. I just don't understand why so many of them don't like George W. He's such a great man.
My Nan always has both the American flag and the Union Jack on display. She voted for Bush.
I think you should stay on here.
Well, I'd say we treat the Brits better than the Canadians. Our neighbors to the north are always good for a few hockey jokes.
French,huh? I never knew:')
It's because of attacks made on Bush and on the US by British leftist. Many here are just returning fire on them. But in general, we love the brits!!!
Why should he personally apologize for the press in England? I certainly never felt any need to apologize for Bill Clinton or the NY Times.
Conservatives better stick together, no matter where we're from.
Count your blessings that you're not a Canadian, eh?
It's ironic that a Labour PM saves the 'special relationship'.
Our idiot Liberal PMs seem determined to squander a century of goodwill.
Stick with us Friend.
Cheers!!
The British are in general greatly admired by Americans.
Just as the cacophonous Bush hatred of your media is not representative of all Brits, so are some of the impudent posts on this board not representative of the general disposition of everyone who participates on this board.
Cheers, mate!
Well yes - there was some Brit bashing.
I did it,
Yes I did.
And I would do it again.
I would describe it as self-flagellation - being British.
The Mirror and Guardian are despicable. The BBC has been pimping for socialism, the retro-feudal system for decades and I am left to ask - what the F happened?
I must say old chap...in several of your postings it appears that you are spoiling for a fight. It's about the fact that most Brits think that our President is incapable of leading.
Fess up...What's your real problem?
You have GOT to be kidding.
We do not bash Great Britain. We DO discuss any bashing of us that comes from that quarter.
You'd do better to take a look at the anti-Americanism running rampant over there.
BTW, there's a huge Tony Blair post-9/11 fan club here. Your generalizations and stereotyping are not appreciated.
Stay. Stay. Stay. I have a huge respect for normal British people. And I love your muffins.
