Democrats question what went wrong
THE WASHINGTON TIMES ^ | November 5, 2004 | Charles Hurt and Brian DeBose

As John Kerry basked Wednesday in the final applause of his failed campaign, at a packed gathering in Boston that was nothing short of funereal, supporters shivered in the cold outside and wondered what went wrong.

One distraught man with long hair lofted a sign that read, "Democracy doesn't work!"

A woman wearing pink tennis shoes carried a poster that read, "Time to secede, not concede."

Democrats across the country are assessing the damage of Tuesday's election and trying desperately to figure out how they lost ground in both the House and the Senate, and failed to capture the White House.

"When you feel that the issues are on your side and you don't win, you have to look at what happened," said John McCormally, a spokesman for the Iowa Democratic Party, whose state Mr. Bush appears to have carried -- the first Republican to do so in 20 years.

"I'm convinced that our side is right on the issues," he said. "But maybe we're selling it the wrong way."

Many other Democrats agreed that Democrats didn't flub the issues; they flubbed the marketing.

"This election was not about issues," Democratic strategist Chris Cooper said. "If it were, clearly we would have won."

Matt Farrauto of the New Mexico Democratic Party blamed the loss on deceptive Republicans.

"When it comes to having a moral compass, our values are more in line with the American people," he said. "But it's very difficult to combat the deceptions of the GOP. They don't seem to have any compunction for honesty."

Mr. Farrauto said it was "ironic and disingenuous" to portray Mr. Kerry as weak on defense.

Their arrogance is surpassed only by their inability to either see or admit that they ARE the problem. They actually believe, dsepite the overwhelming proof to the contrary, that they are right and just badly misunderstood.

They will never know that we do understand everything that they stand for, it's just that we (and most of America!) emphatically reject it!

It has been said that one sign of insanity is to keep repeating the same process and expecting a different result...

"They're focused too much on sports and possessions rather than the issues."

The football fans for truth got under their skin!!! FOTFL It's amazing that they didn't feel the breeze of that one as it flew over their heads.

Get out there & throw another ball John. Act like you know sports stuff, cuz the people seem to be into that.

These clueless idiot couldn't even read their own countrymen. I can't imagine the hell we'd be facing if we had to rely upon them to anticipate the Islamakazi's. After the smelly goat fornicators had set-up shop here and had their way with the Rats these same morons described above would be wringing their hands saying "where did we go wromg?" Pitiful losers.

"Democrats across the country are assessing the damage of Tuesday's election and trying desperately to figure out how they lost ground in both the House and the Senate, and failed to capture the White House."

They might begin by polling their own party and tally the number of old-time democrats who 'accidentally' pulled the wrong lever, realizing at the last moment their party leadership was taken over by radicals who wanted to transform the U.S. into an inter-dependant nation.

I heard this same garbage two years ago.

Yes, and 24 years and 20 years ago. "The Great Communicator" was just an actor to them. No clue. Just no clue.

They won't. They're in denial and when Democratic Iowa is trending Republican, that speaks volumes. The last GOP presidential candidate to carry the Hawkeye State was Ronald Reagan!

These are the "intelligent" Americans according our "friends" across the pond. They still don't get it and they don't know that they don't.

I love their claims that "Democracy doesn't work" because they lost. Another one of their favorites is that their "voices aren't being heard".

Dear Democrats,
Everything is working fine. Your voices were most definitely heard ..............and you were told to shut up.

Careful, you hang around some of us long enough, we're gonna try to convert ya. ;o)

You are target on. Those who are more overt about their "intellectual" atheism like to refer to religious beliefs as myths or superstitions.

Please don't correct them. Agree with them. They just didn't get their far left message out properly.

President Bush should send a thank you card to fat ass Michael Moore for all his help.Mooreon and his fellow know it all liberal elites did more to fire up the conservative base than president Bush could ever imagine.Without Moore many conservative voters might have stayed home in protest of the president's agenda that they disagreed with. The liberals would hang themselves if they ever could admit that they helped elect the president to a second term.

I think you are correct. I also think the article isn't representative of Democrat thinking--none of my Democrat acquaintances think that the message was improperly conveyed. They think the voting populace is stupid (so do I, incidentally, on left and right generally, for different reasons) and exhibit an overwhelming arrogance. It ain't how the message was presented, massah, it IS the message.

This election was just a complete rejection by middle America of gay marriage, moral nihilism, and intellectual elitism. Oh, yeah. The people of America got the message exactly right and returned it to sender.

They don't learn. It's a simple explanation, but I've been watching them and listening to them since they got whipped up in the late sixties. It's more certain with every passing year. They don't learn.

"They are faith-based rather that reality-based," Ms. Miller said. "They're focused too much on sports and possessions rather than the issues."

I have to say, that is probably the most ignorant statement I've read in a long time.

I never knew being a Christian caused me to become obsessed with football and money. Funny, I must have missed that verse.

Hi, FMC:

The Dems screwed the pooch on both the "message" and the "marketing".

What was McAuliffe thinking? Dubbing an admitted Vietnam War Criminal and Anti-War Massachusetts Liberal as their Messiah???

Steeeeeeeeeeee-rike One.

Message?...
1/Vietnam Hero. Sorry. Too many old farts with long memories and achin' hard-ons to let that one slip by.
2/Health Care?... Been There. Done That. When Hillary thought she was President.
3/"Global Test"?... We're at WAR, you imbecile!
4/"I Have A Plan!"... What plan? Where? With whom? If you had laid out the deatils. It might have gotten you some more votes. No one likes secrecy when people want to kill them!

Steeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee-rike Two!

Marketing?...

1/Kerry has absolutely NO charisma before a crowd larger than the Well of the Senate!
2/Possesses a voice even more boring than Henry Kissinger and a face that rivals Rondo Hatton!
3/Tax Cuts for the wealthy?... What do you call the Hollywood Mafia and George Soros?
4/Very goofy, un-masculine, girly-man Photo Ops. Throwing a football. Catching a football. Trying to kick a soccer ball. Can't throw a baseball.
5/Who the HELL wears a Cathcart coat OVER a suit and tie?
6/The Ostrich and Eagle ad should have been stolen by the GOP!
7/Someone give Kerry one of Tar-Ayyy-Zah's Valiums! He always look like he has a corncob halfway up his spine.
8/MetroSexual
9/Creepy touchy feely times with his supposed Veep. Hugs with his shrew of a drunken elitist wife.
10/"I'm John Kerry. And I'm reporting for duty!"... Learn how to snap a salute, snot weasel!...

Steeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee-rike Three!!!

You're outta here!

Jack.

"Nationally, I'm not ready to make any conclusions. But one positive is that the demographic cohort of voters that we won were young voters, 18 to 35," he said. "We cleaned up there, but we obviously have a lot of work to do with voters 40 and over."

IMHO, this issue has not even dawned on the Dems yet.

The Republicans scored with the over 40 group.

The next generation, the children of the over 40 group are on the threshold of voting. Children often follow their parents' political persuasion.

And while Democrats have been aborting their offspring and having relatively small families, many conservatives have rather large families.

I think this will only compound the growth of conservatives in this country.

Boston voter Robyn Miller is right about one thing. For the Democrat party as she and others like her see it, we have to get rid of the two-party system. Years ago, Repulicans were the federalists, Democrats were the anti-federalists. We need to get back to this balance. Robyn and friends can join the Communist Party of America, which is where they belong.
