Freeper Canteen: Welcome Home and Thank you Vietnam Vets! 05 Nov. 2004
The Canteen All Stars

For the freedom you enjoyed yesterday... Thank the Veterans who served in The United States Armed Forces

Looking forward to tomorrow's freedom? Support The United States Armed Forces Today!

CAMP RUN-A-MUCK

So much has been said and written about our Vietnam Veterans and our military men and women over the past few days. The message out there is loud and clear: Americans support our troops! In my opinion the election we won this week for George Bush is indeed a message to our troops; that we trust you, and to our Vietnam Veterans; that we love you and want to make things right again. And to both groups; We do believe in you as much as you believe in us. Still I feel as though there is one thing missing- a proper THANK YOU for all your sacrifices.

I have heard many stories in the past few days that active duty troops would like to see their brothers and sisters from Vietnam finally get the respect which has always been due them.

With that in mind, this thread is dedicated to our troops, both home and away , for our Vietnam vets and for all of their loved ones.

Most of us are sorry it took so long to get our message to you- please know many of us have held this message in our hearts for a very long time:

THANK YOU AND WELCOME HOME!

FEILD TRIP HERE!

Those Americans who went to Vietnam fought for freedom, a truly noble cause. You and your comrades-in-arms who faced danger and death in Vietnam fought as well as any Americans in our nation's history.

Vietnam was not so much a war as it was one long battle in an ongoing war -the war in defense of freedom, which is still under assault. This battle was lost not by those brave American and South Vietnamese troops who were waging it but by political misjudgments and strategic failure at the highest levels of government.

The tragedy- indeed, the immorality-of those years was that for the first time in our history our country and its government failed to match the heroic sacrifice of our men in the field.

This must never happen again.

~Ronald Reagan~

To all those who have worn the uniform of the United States of America I say to you: You are America.

Lucky no one was killed in that massive fireworks explosion.

You're still at work, right? Ever find out the reason for the road closures last night?

High winds created big power outages here today; it was starting to get cold indoors. Just getting back online but I missed the lights most of all.

Hi, DeeBee, howaya? Due to high winds we lost our power this morning and was out for six hours...came on just as it got really dark and cold, and now we're cozy and warm.

A coyote looks similar to a domestic
dog, but has adapted to the wild.

Coyotes join the foxes in Washington

WASHINGTON (Reuters) -- Coyotes, the rangy animals associated with the American West, have been spotted in the U.S. capital for the first time, sparking gossip in precincts where talk usually turns on politics.

"On our way home from a party tonight, my son spotted a coyote trotting amongst the trees," one writer said in an e-mail group for one of Washington's tonier sections.

"One ran across Military [Road in western Washington]. No question, a healthy smallish coyote!" another wrote on October 21, referring to a location about 5 miles (8 km) from the White House.

Residents of the Washington area have reported seeing coyotes for months and The Washington Post warned last summer that household pets could fall prey to the omnivorous creatures.

But coyotes' presence inside the city limits was confirmed only in September by a naturalist on duty in the woods of Rock Creek Park.

"I suspect we've had coyotes close by for some time. We've just discovered them recently," Michael Bean, chairman of the wildlife program at the Environmental Defense group, said on Friday.

Coyotes originally roamed in what is now the northwestern corner of the United States, but have expanded their range over the last 200 years to include all of North America except the extreme northeast portions of Canada.

With its thick fur, pointed snout and bushy tail, the coyote appears similar to a domestic dog like a collie, but its adaptability has enabled it to survive where a household pet might not.

A typical coyote diet includes small mammals, insects, reptiles, fruit and carrion, but in areas like Washington where it shares its habitat with humans, kitchen garbage and pet food are likely menu additions.

It is not unusual to find coyotes in a city setting, naturalists say, and they have been spotted in cities in Minnesota, Ohio, Wisconsin and Illinois, including in Chicago.

The real-life coyote should not be confused with the hapless cartoon Wile E. Coyote, eternal loser in his desert battle of wits with the Roadrunner, Bean said.

"Unlike the cartoon character, they're not dumb. They're quite capable of surviving in some inhospitable surroundings," he said. "If they were as dumb as the cartoon character, they would never have made it this far."
