The Republican expected to chair the Senate Judiciary Committee next year bluntly warned newly re-elected President Bush on Wednesday against putting forth Supreme Court nominees who would seek to overturn abortion rights or are otherwise too conservative to win confirmation.

Too bad that Frist doesn't have the pair necessary to tell The Specter to STFU, and to sit down in the back of the room.
This is totally silly; there is just no reason to allow a party member with that much seniority to be such a renegade, and he must be stopped. The sooner, the better.
Hopefully there is a way to prevent his rise to the chairmanship of the Judiciary. His zenith was the famous "magic bullet theory" in the Warren Commission findings and it has been downhill from there.
Meaning of course his nutty bullet theory.
As if they were going to vote for Kerry.
Lets send him a message that WE the people are watching
him - closely!
How do you go about recalling or impeaching the head of
a committee? Just in case.
And that is why this election was so important.
I'm afraid that may be what is afoot. However, the White House would rue the day they expected Spector to play ball.
Yucko---ABS---Anybody But Spector! That guy would be imposing Scottish law and logic on us. And he couldn't even help deliver PA! What a loser!
Ah, but let's remember. Back during the primary, we were told we musn't, no we musn't support Toomey. Why we might lose the Senate, control of the Congress rests on our support for Specter!
Well, as it turns out, even if Toomey had lost, we still would have gained seats in the Senate, and more importantly, the President's nominees would actually have a chance of being favorably reported out from the Judiciary Committee. I hope all the Toomey nay-sayers are happy now.
I say we all e-mail our senators, regardless of party, or committes, I think if they get bombarded, they will have to respond. Be sure and tell any FReeper that hasn't come to this thread. Also, if Frist doesn't have e-mail, then snail mail him.
Off the subject: Pat Buchanan just said on Hardball that the Republican party is going downhill and is losing its constituency. He said the strength of the Republican party started under Nixon, peaked with Reagan and has gone down hill since then. Then he intimates that with Bush it is going over the cliff and will basically be gone after 2008.

I have it :) (I wish that courtv left that website alone!)
But everyone should read that to know what kind of monster Arlen Specter helped free. Thank you very much for posting it.
What a creepy bunch that was/is...and Bronfman money still plays a role in these elections...all of it going to Kerry for years.
"if he went over to the Democrats..."
If this Rotten Imbecilic Namby Oaf (RINO) were to actually switch, we would not have to concern ourselves with his becoming Chairman of Judiciary. Dare him...
I have never liked "magic bullet" Arlen, and I was so hoping he would lose last night.
Arlene is tired. You will have to excuse him. He forgot that POTUS has announced that he will only appoint those judges that will be strict constructionists and not someone who will legislate (interpret in light of the people's values) The senator is mistaken if he thinks this president will be tempering his values for political expediency. This senator hasn't kept up with current events.
Absolutely. Specter must NOT be allowed to even be on the committee.
Is the chairmanship automatic? I would think not?
