If you remember the story, Kerry did not want to be seen carrying the dead goose he shot in the photo op. So while exiting the field he had a birdboy run on up ahead out of the camera shot carrying the goose. When asked, he said each hunter shot one, but in all pictures, he is the only one not shown carrying a dead goose.
Duckhunters on the website the Duckhunter's Refuge pointed out this was a violation of federal law, it involved not "maintaining field possession" of the game.
When this question arose, I emailed the head waterfowl biologist for my state, who is a friend of mine. But unfortunately, he was on vacation for a couple weeks.
Anyway, today was his first day back in the office and here is his reply --
Kevin,
You cannot give your birds to another in the field under any circumstances, even if you tag them. You must carry your own birds and cannot even leave them in the field according to federal rules. At your vehicle you can tag the birds with your name, address, signature, date and sex and species of birds in the bunch to give them away. At a persons dwelling or yours, you can give them away untagged. Hope this helps.
My friend did not have a clue why I was asking, I just asked if it was a federal law that hunters "maintain field possession." That was all.
It is nit picking, but I'm an occasional goose hunter and I'm glad you posted this as I didn't know this. Thanks.
It just shows that from the small things to those of greatest importance, this is a man (if you can call him that) completely devoid of ethics, honesty, morals.
Why? Because game wardens issue tickets for exceeding bag limits. If you buy a hunting license and have a bag limit of six birds, you can't shoot seven and give the seventh to a friend to carry.
That's my understanding.
It's considered an attempt to avoid a bag limit.
Being a lawyer, kerry should know that ignorance of the law is not an excuse. Being an officer of the court ,I believe it is necessary for him to turn himself in.But I suppose being a lawyer like bill & hill, it means he's above the law.
Kind of like Clinton and the way he would cheat at golf.

Nathan, Just to validate my point,I found a source in the Ohio Waterfowl Regulations.
"Field Possession Limit:No person shall possess more than ONE daily bag limit(1 in Ohio)while in the field or while returning from the field to one's car, hunting camp, home, etc.,,"
So,your buddy can't be sitting with two geese when the CO shows up in the field.Which goes to show that Kerry broke the law by not having his goose tagged. It was no longer in his possession.

Right.
This dope reached his bag limit when he bagged 'shove-it'
He swore he had been an avid hunter for years... he should have known... unless he was posing once again...
"Can I git me a huntin license?"
Please git me the barf bag!
I can't wait to vote tomorrow!! 4 more years!
But Kerry said that he didn't shoot a bird after he said he did. When confronted by PETA he admitted he missed.
Where does this crap come from? As much as I truly don't like sKerry, I would like to see the actual law in print that is supposedly being quoted here.
There is NO law that says you have to carry out your own bird(s). It would be unwise to carry more than your daily possession limit (usually twice the daily bag limit), but as a goose and duck hunter for some years now, I have NEVER seen such a law. Any real waterfowl hunter will tell you that knowledge of the law will save your butt. Both local and Federal officers will zap you with major fines and penalties (and possibly confiscation of your property including guns, vehicles, etc.).
I have even asked a couple of guides I know about this supposed rule/law - they all say it's BS.
So if folks want to drill Kerry - drill him on the many legitimate issues (not the least of which is his direct actions of treason against this country at a time of war) and let this non-issue BS story die.
What's more is that the lifelong hunter should have known the laws about possession of your kill. (large helping of sarcasm attached) ie, this can't even be ''ignorance of the law''...it demonstrates contempt for the law & willful disobedience, being the great hunter that Kerry is.
Kerry breaking the law. Just goes along with being a demorat and a traitor.
...but as a goose and duck hunter for some years now, I have NEVER seen such a law
Hope you're hungry for crow.
You do not need any kind of license to shoot your own goose!
Canadian geese are commonly raised domestically. This was a photo-op, nothing more.
But..... Kerry had a PLAN....... and it would have been legal, dontcha know.
You got some for me? I hear that crow breasts, wrapped in bacon, and grilled are quite tasty. I'm waiting.
Maybe the reason he didn't carry the goose was to keep from breaking the law, ie., -he- did not shoot it and legally couldn't carry it from the field.
Maybe the guy carrying it was carrying *his* goose but told everyone it was kerry's....:)
Riiiiiggght!
