"Actually, I think the timing is pretty good. Kerry and the MSM were given four days to commit themselves to this story, and make it look big and important. Now on Friday morning, four days before the election, it, er, blows up in their faces. An October surprise -- but one of their own doing. If they hadn't been so eager to try to spin this against Bush, it would have been a non-story."
agree completely

Maybe to introduce into the media the idea that OTHER weapons were removed before the start of the war? Make the Russians and the Syrians nervous?

I question the timing of this announcement!

John Kerry: "Iraq was no threat, Saddam was an angel."
John Kerry: "These dangerous weapons are missing and being used against our troops. President Bush is incompetent." Both sides of every issue, everytime.

I can hear him already. "So where is the other 160 tons"? You know the terrorists have them. I suspect the other 160 tons is what we saw the Russians carrying away on trucks before the war started.
We wouldn't have destroyed 200 tons out of 360 tons and just stopped. That tells me it's likely that the Russians left all the stuff that wasn't identified as theirs, we found that and destroyed it.

Responsible journalists would have presented the story to the military for comment and given them a chance to respond before printing it on the front page of their newspaper.

If this is demonstrated as true...the Bush team is absolutely brilliant to let the accusations be churned by the MSM ever since it was reported by the NYT, because there's been so much discussion it can't be ignored by them going into the weekend. And following on the footsteps of Rathergate! Any clue what the topic of the Sunday talk shows will be? :-)

Oh, I don't think for a minute this is a "rush to judgment." No, this was almost certainly a calculated bet that they could put the lie out there so late that the President wouldn't have time to refute it. This is far more dishonest than a mere "rush to judgment."

The funny thing is that Kerry tried to stand toe-to-toe with the president on defense type issues.
Democrats always do better with domestic ideas, but he though he'd take a sure bet.

Amen, Kerry wastes three days on a non-issue that shows he's impulsive.
