More trouble brewing in Ohio: Reader Evan Rogers sent us this absentee ballot from Cuyahoga County (Cleveland).
Looking at the ballot, one would assume that to vote for President Bush, you'd punch out the green square opposite the arrow. Nope. The right square for Bush is the red one, number four, near the top of the column. That corresponds, I guess, to the number 4 next to the arrow, and I assume that voters are instructed in what those numbers mean. What makes it unreasonable is that to vote for John Kerry, you punch square six, the blue one, which is just opposite Kerry's arrow. So Bush voters are likely to be confused; Kerry voters won't be.
There are probably dozens, if not hundreds, of such sources of confusion in various districts around the country. Depending on the election's outcome, any of them could be grounds for post-election lawsuits.
Why the arrows then?
Man ! Don't tell me. Let me guess. Democrats designed this ballot .....
LOL How did you know? Only in Cleveland...
Who Designed This Ballot?
(Ohio ballot has Bush incorrectly
aligned with arrow) [fraud!]
Please let me know if you want ON or OFF my General Interest ping list!. . .don't be shy.
My Gawd! So this is their plan? Deliberately screw up the
format of the ballots to sabatage the GOP.Man. As mhking says, "just dang!" ......
It is not as bad as I initially thought. But still, those arrows confused a lot of people. I hope the GOP/Bush campaign alerts everyone in that county.
This is outrageous
Man. Cleveland?? That has to be a pretty big population, right?Darn right, the GOP needs to alert folks there.
Did anyone call? If not, I will!
Me too.
That absentee ballot looks like a nightmare!!
More than a little disappointing that the nation most committed to freedom doesn't have its sh*t together in this regard.
Thanks for the ping!
The trouble is newbies pushing this on FR without PROOF!
We are being set up here, folks.
Cripes!
I am going to log off until Wednesday if this garbage doesn't stop.
It will get worse before it gets better.
"I was getting paranoid about potential fraud. It looks like whoever put the arrows clearly messed up and confused people."
Those look exactly like the absentee ballots we get here in Washington. Even the fonts look the same. The ballot would have worried me, too. Here, the choices have always, always, always been in numerical order. If Candidate A were number 4 and B were number 12, they would appear in that order on the written ballot. If I had gotten the ballot, I would have suspected that 4 was supposed to be 14; and the 2 above should have been 12. That would have been perfectly consistant with previous ballot organization.
What to do? Follow the letter of the instructions and take the chance that 14 was in fact the right chad to punch, or punch chad 14 on the assumpution that the 4 was a typo?
I probably would have done neither, and tried to call the Sec of State and get a clarification.
The Dems lost their big lawsuit.
Now they are pushing this story to bolster their "count every vote or intent of voter" crap that they pulled in Florida.
Clearly photoshoped. You know the election is getting close when these things appear.
the story is real. look at any of the AP accounts posted on this thread.
