CA College Republicans to protest MTV's "Rock the Vote" in Santa Monica FRIDAY (10/22) 11 am

Posted on 10/20/2004 6:29:37 PM PDT by politicalvanguard.com

California College Republicans Chairman Michael P. Davidson issued the following statement on the use of the draft by MTV’s Rock the Vote and the KerryCampaign as a scare tactic this election year: "MTV and the Kerry campaign's use of the draft to scare young voters into voting is pathetic and disgusting.

"While our servicemen are fighting for our country and the freedom of millions, military service should not be used as an instrument of fear. Military service is one of the most honorable deeds and any suggestion otherwise is grossly insulting.

"In this campaign, there is only one person that has entertained the notion of a draft – and that is John Kerry.

"Sadly, MTV's and John Kerry's desperation have compelled them to stoop to the lowest of levels.

"The next American generation, and our country’s bravest young men and women in uniform deserve better."

Last week, the House of Representatives voted against a Democrat-sponsored bill to reinstate the draft by a margin of 402 to 2, and both President Bush and Defense Secretary Rumsfeld are on record saying that a draft is unnecessary.

And yet MTV’s Rock the Vote (www.rockthevote.com) posted a fake draft induction card signed by Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld that says 'this could be you.' At the same time, John Kerry continues to use the draft as an issue in his campaign, saying that there is 'great potential' one will be reinstated if President Bush is reelected. Clearly, Rock the Vote has a bias toward John Kerry, which violates their non-partisan and non-profit status.

A protest is scheduled outside the MTV offices in Santa Monica from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Friday, October 22. For more information on the California College Republicans, please go to www.collegegop.org.

Good. There's one with several "stars" including Leonardo DiCaprio, Justin Timberlake, Samuel L Jackson and others I can't identify (too old, I guess).

Sam Jackson's piece is talking about the draft! I just make a transcript of the ad:

"If you care about the environment (DiCaprio)"
"The cost of health care (?a)"
"if you care about being heard (?b)"
"if you care about the cost of education (Timberlake)"
"If you care whether there's a military draft (Jackson)"

" Politicians are passing laws (Timberlake)"
"that effect the air we breath, the water we drink (DiCaprio)"
"who fights the war in Iraq (Jackson)"
"how much you pay for your college education (Timberlake)"
"Who makes the sacrifice (Jackson)"
"This election is going to be this (hold fingers apart) close (Ricky Martin?)"
"22 million single women didn't vote in the last presidential election. Hmm! 22 million single women(?b)"
"(SPANISH DIALOG - Martin)"
"Our environment (DiCaprio)"
"your future (Martin)"
"censorship (?c)"
"A NEW military draft (Jackson)"
"the many issues that will be decided this election (Timberlake)"
"if you're tripping about health care (?a)"
"don't keep your opinions to yourself (DiCaprio)"
"show you care. VOTE! (Jackson)"
"Vote! (Timberlake)"
"I talk to you (?b)"
"The most important thing I can do (DiCaprio)"
"Is the most important thing you can do (Jackson)"
"Please vote on Novermber 2nd (DiCaprio)"
(Rock the Vote graphic)

That's OK! If Bush wins and Kerry is right, ALL young folks, male and female, who voted for Kerry WILL BE DRAFTED!!! That's INVOLUNTARY MILITARY SERVICE for up to 12 months WITH NO DEFERRMENTS!!!

The only way to beat the evil Bush is to trick him and not vote for Kerry. Got that? If they don't vote for Kerry, they outlick Bush and the evil Halliburton/oil/Cheney draft. Is that slick or what?? DON'T VOTE FOR KERRY AND AVOID BEING DRAFTED BY BUSH!!!

WOW, I'm impressed! It probably wont turn the stampede charging to the kool-aid fountain, but it is a voice that has been silent in that demographic, in that geographic for too long.

Doesn't this warrant an FEC complaint?

Clearly, Rock the Vote has a bias toward John Kerry, which violates their non-partisan and non-profit status.

I went to an outdoor music fest last weekend in New Orleans. Stopped by the "Rock the Vote" booth. Saw lots of information on registering to vote, right next to the anti-Bush literature. They ain't fooling anyone.

PROTEST ROCK & ROLL PING

Rock and Roll PING! email Weegee to get on/off this list (or grab it yourself to PING the rest)

This concerns MTV's continued lies about the "Republican Draft" that "Donald Rumsfeld wants".

I'm at the point where I'd almost ask that the stuffed shirts at Viacom burn in Hell for their deceptions this campaign cycle. Tough words but I am tired of their lies.

... but they even SAY that they are non-partisan (for tax purposes and university access).

They wouldn't LIE would they? Gosh, why if they'd lie about being non-partisan and the draft, what else would they LIE about???

Media Schadenfreude and Media Shenanigans PING

Reason #4,125 to boycott Viacom in all its endeavors. Tell the sponsors that you won't come back until Dan Ratherbiased and co. are GONE. Funny how the media played up the left's boycott of Sinclair much more then they ever played up the Pajama People's boycott of Viacommie.

From Yahoo! MAPS:

star 2600 Colorado Ave Santa Monica, CA 90404-3519
When using any driving directions or map, it's a good idea to do a reality check and make sure the road still exists, watch out for construction, and follow all traffic safety precautions. This is only to be used as an aid in planning.

WAR AGAINST ROCK THE VOTE
MTV’s Rock the Vote & John Kerry Dodge the Facts about the Draft

Aye WeeGee I agree with you totally. Luckily my daughter has been to farms and have seen piles of BS..and knows to step clear of it. Whats a shame and a total disservice to kids in America is Rock the Vote as a concept in true nonpartisan fashion is turned into ..Again a Dirty DNC trick. How sad for it's founders to play pied piper. They have in one hours time of inspect from my daughter with dad grinning and yet sorry for her as Rock the Vote has destroyed her starry eyed ideas of them.

Two anecdotes to respond with.

I have a friend who has left his career in the airline industry as a mechanic. He was laid off after 9-11-2001 and was about to be laid off again (just about the time he would get vested he was on the first to get cut list).

He knew that his taxes would go up under Kerry (his own perception, not anything I ever said). He never talked about the war.

I was hanging out at his house and I had put MTV on his tv (I don't have cable/satellite and at least try to get a taste for "popular culture" at times). There were a couple of back to back episodes of a car customizing show; we both dig cars even if we hold more to older chassis's.

I saw a "Rock the Vote" spot telling the lie about Bush's draft (this was about 2 months ago). He already knew it was crap (in part from an email from me). I also pointed out that they were INTERRUPTING THE MTV SHOWS to have a special "Rock the Vote" moment (about every 10 minutes).

He knew from his own experience that this whole "get out the idiot vote" movement (not just on MTV) is a DNC sponsored deal.

I do not know if he will vote for George Bush in November. I do know that he is real sour on Kerry and the DNC. We are in Texas so his vote will mostly be symbolic.

My other anecdote was something I overheard a couple discussing at a restaurant. I could not tell their politics (I suspect conservative). The mother was discussing how the daughter (not present) had heard about "Bush's Draft". She later learned that it was a lie and fully understood it (did not see it to be a cover). She said that she may not vote this year (possibly her first election) since she didn't know who she could trust (even though there were no examples of the Bush campaign distorting their positions or Kerry's).
