WAR AGAINST ROCK THE VOTE MTVs Rock the Vote & John Kerry Dodge the Facts about the Draft
|
|
LOS ANGELES, CA California College Republicans Chairman Michael P. Davidson issued the following statement on the use of the draft by MTVs Rock the Vote and the KerryCampaign as a scare tactic this election year:
"MTV and the Kerry campaign's use of the draft to scare young voters into voting is pathetic and disgusting.
"While our servicemen are fighting for our country and the freedom of millions, military service should not be used as an instrument of fear. Military service is one of the most honorable deeds and any suggestion otherwise is grossly insulting.
"In this campaign, there is only one person that has entertained the notion of a draft and that is John Kerry.
"Sadly, MTV's and John Kerry's desperation have compelled them to stoop to the lowest of levels.
"The next American generation, and our countrys bravest young men and women in uniform deserve better." Last week, the House of Representatives voted against a Democrat-sponsored bill to reinstate the draft by a margin of 402 to 2, and both President Bush and Defense Secretary Rumsfeld are on record saying that a draft is unnecessary. And yet MTVs Rock the Vote (www.rockthevote.com) posted a fake draft induction card signed by Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld that says 'this could be you.' At the same time, John Kerry continues to use the draft as an issue in his campaign, saying that there is 'great potential' one will be reinstated if President Bush is reelected. Clearly, Rock the Vote has a bias toward John Kerry, which violates their non-partisan and non-profit status. A protest is scheduled outside the MTV offices in Santa Monica from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Friday, October 22. To get the flier, click here.
