California College Republicans Chairman Michael P. Davidson issued the following statement on the use of the draft by MTVs Rock the Vote and the KerryCampaign as a scare tactic this election year: "MTV and the Kerry campaign's use of the draft to scare young voters into voting is pathetic and disgusting.
"While our servicemen are fighting for our country and the freedom of millions, military service should not be used as an instrument of fear. Military service is one of the most honorable deeds and any suggestion otherwise is grossly insulting.
"In this campaign, there is only one person that has entertained the notion of a draft and that is John Kerry.
"Sadly, MTV's and John Kerry's desperation have compelled them to stoop to the lowest of levels.
"The next American generation, and our countrys bravest young men and women in uniform deserve better."
Last week, the House of Representatives voted against a Democrat-sponsored bill to reinstate the draft by a margin of 402 to 2, and both President Bush and Defense Secretary Rumsfeld are on record saying that a draft is unnecessary.
And yet MTVs Rock the Vote (www.rockthevote.com) posted a fake draft induction card signed by Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld that says 'this could be you.' At the same time, John Kerry continues to use the draft as an issue in his campaign, saying that there is 'great potential' one will be reinstated if President Bush is reelected. Clearly, Rock the Vote has a bias toward John Kerry, which violates their non-partisan and non-profit status.
A protest is scheduled outside the MTV offices in Santa Monica from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Friday, October 22. For more information on the California College Republicans, please go to www.collegegop.org.
go gittem guys!
Sam Jackson's piece is talking about the draft! I just make a transcript of the ad:
"If you care about the environment (DiCaprio)"
"The cost of health care (?a)"
"if you care about being heard (?b)"
"if you care about the cost of education (Timberlake)"
"If you care whether there's a military draft (Jackson)"
" Politicians are passing laws (Timberlake)"
"that effect the air we breath, the water we drink (DiCaprio)"
"who fights the war in Iraq (Jackson)"
"how much you pay for your college education (Timberlake)"
"Who makes the sacrifice (Jackson)"
"This election is going to be this (hold fingers apart) close (Ricky Martin?)"
"22 million single women didn't vote in the last presidential election. Hmm! 22 million single women(?b)"
"(SPANISH DIALOG - Martin)"
"Our environment (DiCaprio)"
"your future (Martin)"
"censorship (?c)"
"A NEW military draft (Jackson)"
"the many issues that will be decided this election (Timberlake)"
"if you're tripping about health care (?a)"
"don't keep your opinions to yourself (DiCaprio)"
"show you care. VOTE! (Jackson)"
"Vote! (Timberlake)"
"I talk to you (?b)"
"The most important thing I can do (DiCaprio)"
"Is the most important thing you can do (Jackson)"
"Please vote on Novermber 2nd (DiCaprio)"
(Rock the Vote graphic)
The only way to beat the evil Bush is to trick him and not vote for Kerry. Got that? If they don't vote for Kerry, they outlick Bush and the evil Halliburton/oil/Cheney draft. Is that slick or what?? DON'T VOTE FOR KERRY AND AVOID BEING DRAFTED BY BUSH!!!
Somehow, this makes sense... I better step away from the watercooler..
Doesn't this warrant an FEC complaint?
Rock and Roll PING! email Weegee to get on/off this list (or grab it yourself to PING the rest)
This concerns MTV's continued lies about the "Republican Draft" that "Donald Rumsfeld wants".
I'm at the point where I'd almost ask that the stuffed shirts at Viacom burn in Hell for their deceptions this campaign cycle. Tough words but I am tired of their lies.
... but they even SAY that they are non-partisan (for tax purposes and university access).
They wouldn't LIE would they? Gosh, why if they'd lie about being non-partisan and the draft, what else would they LIE about???
Reason #4,125 to boycott Viacom in all its endeavors. Tell the sponsors that you won't come back until Dan Ratherbiased and co. are GONE. Funny how the media played up the left's boycott of Sinclair much more then they ever played up the Pajama People's boycott of Viacommie.
