Just had an overhead shot of the plane. Looks like it pancaked on its belly. Burned to a crisp with a yellow tarp over the cockpit area.

Man, that looks so small, like a good wind could whip it around easily. (Note: my fear of flying is showing.)

From WSB=TV:

Atlanta -- Emergency crews are responding to a report of a small plane crash on Edgewood Avenue near downtown Atlanta.

The plane is a twin engine Beech Baron on a flight from DeKalb Peachtree Airport to Venice, Florida according to Kathleen Bergen of the FAA.

Witness Mark Camilo says the plane spiraled down from several thousand feet. He says the plane crash nose first into the ground.

Another witness told Channel Two Action News fire in the Edgewood Avenue was extensive. But the fire is now out.

There are reports the plane struck an abandoned building.

Police spokesperson Jolene Butts-Freeman confirms the plane went down near the intersection of Edgewood Avenue and Boulevard.

At least four Atlanta Fire Department units are on the scene.

Butts-Freeman reports at least one building in the area is on fire.

Streets in the area are closed off.

I work downtown on Peachtree Street. Can see the emergency vehicles from my office window. I would guess this is weather related. There has been a couple of heavy squall storms through here this morning, and another is going now. News says there are no survivors - unfortunately. Grady is only 1/2 mile from the crash scene.

Lucky it was a small plane and an abandoned building. Could have been much worse.
