Update from AJC.com:

Sgt. John Quigley said the six-seat Beech Baron that had just left the DeKalb-Peachtree Airport bound for Venice, Fla., crashed at Edgewood Avenue and Boulevard.

The aircraft crashed into the Edgewood Collision auto body shop. The business owner, Noman Rashid, said four workers were in the shop at the time but none was injured.

He arrived a few minutes after the crash.

"My man was in the back and the plane crashed into the office. The plane is on fire. It blew up. The plane is on fire and the building is on fire."

The fire caused by the crash was quickly extinguished, said Bill May, spokesman for the Atlanta Fire Department.

There were two people on board the twin-engine Beechcraft 55 plane when it crashed at 10:55 a.m., said FAA spokesman Christopher White.

The plane is registered to J&R Aircraft Inc. of Nokomis, Fla. White said he did not know if there was a distress call from the plane before the crash.

Police have closed most streets in the area, and MARTA has rerouted buses routes 3, 17, and 99 because of the crash.

Witnesses said the plane spun out of control before hitting the building. A rain storm was moving through the city at the time.

According to WSB-TV, the pilot of the plane was killed.

Atlanta police have asked for a medical examiner at the scene, which usually means someone has been killed.

The Associated Press contributed to this story.
