Hollywood heavyweights Paul Newman, Steve Bing, Robert De Niro and Matt Damon have boosted Senator John Kerry's presidential campaign as he bids for the White House next month. The Democrat hopeful is currently neck and neck with current US leader George W Bush in the opinion polls in the run-up to polling day on November 2. Over 850 celebrities and businesspeople have contributed to Kerry's campaign fund, of which a recent investigation in New York has revealed Bing, Damon, De Niro and Newman have all given money. Film producer Bing, who famously denied paternity of Elizabeth Hurley's son Damian and was later forced to admit he was the father, has written many cheques to the Democrats of up to $9 million. De Niro has generously contributed $28,800, Kevin Bacon $18,000 and Michael Douglas $15,300. The Bourne Supremacy heart-throb Damon has donated $27,000, while film legend Newman has given $54,000. Chevy Chase, who like Damon has also donated $27,000, fumes, "There's something venal and arrogant about Bush and it drives me up the wall." On Wednesday the Bush camp tried to downplay the celebrity connections and donations the Democrats have received, saying, "The world doesn't revolve around Hollywood."

Don't these people know that this makes half the country hate them and not want to see their movies?!!? I love those guys, they're great talents. But it definetely enters my mind every time I decide whether to go spend my money to see their films. I haven't seen any Sean Penn movies in a while, or any of those dummies. Do they think they're convincing anybody? Even other liberals think they're morons. They are so indulgent and self-important that they are alienating audiences because they really think anyone cares about their opinion.

The idiot Chevy Chase just proves my point all along. He thinks Bush is arrogant, but doesn't seem to see arrogance in Kerry's or Edwards' smug little smirk? I think that small men like Chevy Chase, Matt Damon, and other Hollywood skumbags know that someone strong and good like Bush really shows their flaws. They need men like Clintoon and Kerry running things, because then they don't look so bad.

yup, same here. Just can't watch some of the stuff that previously I had enjoyed by actors such as Newman, De Niro, Reford, etc. Those guys made some good movies but most of the stuff out in the past decade of more stinks.

Now I stick to the real oldies I grew up on, and to tell you the truth these movies are classic, very enjoyable. Great actors, such as Bogart, Cagney, Wayne, Gable, Stewart, B. Davis, B. Stanwyck, Myrna Loy, Errol Flynn, Cary Grant, Ingrid Bergman, the list is long.

They made great movies without the aid of computer graphics, special effects and so on. Just great story-lines, dialog, music, acting that conveyed morals, principles and good values, which modern movies have almost none. So I'm not missing a thing!

Whatever you do, don't eat a salad at McDonald's-they use Newman's Own dressing. Athough Newman donates part of his proceeds to worthy causes, including his Hole in the Wall camp for terminally ill children, and various mental health organizations, part of the profits also go to The Nation (which explains how that commie rag stays in business).
