Over a year ago, there was a discussion of a group of men meeting, then being wiped out by a smart bomb, think from a Predator. The leader was reported as tall.
Noticed the next day or two that Rumsfeld was beaming while greeting associates. I think the unreleased tracking camera video told the story.
Last I heard about this incident was a team going to try to get DNA samples.
Bet there wasn't enough of Bin Laden left to identify. I do believe he was killed.
With home dialysis you have to keep everything very sterile I understand. That's not easy on the run especially if you need to do it night and day. Regular dialysis would be much more easy time wise. Who knows. I still think he's dead and was killed in the Tora Bora bombings when the US was asking for DNA samples from his family. There has not been very good proof that he is still alive. Of course there is no proof he is dead either. Maybe I'm just an optimist :)
I totally agree. I thought OBL was dead for a long time and I think your rationalization of Bush not wanting to make him into a martyr is correct.

Omar and Osama have been "room temperature" for some time now. Since the report, I have heard nothing about it, but Osama's been dead since we bombed Omar's suburban outside of Kabul making a run for the hills before the main invasion force set foot in country. Anyone who wishes to interview Osama or Omar should look for stains along the highway in Afghanistan.

It is beyond the pale to suggest that ANYTHING could have lived after the bombardment by multiple B-52 strikes on Tora Bora. The destructive power is nearly incomprehensible unless you have seen it for yourself.
The problem is, we succeeded too well.
After the 500,000 lbs of ordinance were dropped, there is very very little left to identify. The "smear on a rock" scenario is very close to the truth.
He is well and truly dead, and it serves no purpose to us to say so.
As far as the audio tapes are concerned, you have to listen closely to what is said about them. The only good thing I learned from the Clinton years was to listen carefully to the actual words being said by spokespeople. Note that they always say that the "voice appears to be that of Bin Laden" , or that "intelligence sources confirmed that it is Bin Laden". And we all know that "intelligence sources" often have a hidden agenda.
Just my 2 cents worth.

Has the military ever dug into tora bora to see if there were any tunnels or complexes left?
The way everyone made it sound, those complexes could sustain life even after a nuclear hit, provided there was enough food, water and toilet paper.
As I recall, we knew he was at the site, and was trying to get out of Dodge by going over a mountain pass. Our ELINT (Electronic Intelligence) units heard him on a radio giving orders and was able to triangulate his position.
The BUFFs came right in and literally leveled the mountaintop.
There really isnt much to search.
That being said however, you can be sure that we scoured the location extensively looking for just such evidence.
But, one smear on a rock looks pretty much the same as all the others at one point or another.
Only my opinion, but an informed one.

October Surprise - OBL is dead... thanks for posting, I think you may be right.
Interesting - very interesting ... OBL died in Tora Bora after all, which blows a hole in Kerry's BS about us letting him get away ... but the DoD never announced it because they never wanted to make a martyr out of him, hence it's low key ... and *yet* we have these OBL 'tapes' that comes out.
How do they fit in?
So we have a phony OBL... LOL ... I just hope the fake beard trick works!
