The Threat Matrix

The title refers to a daily report given to the president of the United States detailing the most serious terrorist threats against the country. To tackle those threats, the government has formed a top-notch task force to infiltrate the terror cells and cut off the danger.

"Every morning, the president receives a list of the top ten terrorist threats - this list is known as the threat matrix."

We here at FR are trying to be in conjunction with the daily reports around the world that involve threats. We try to provide a storehouse of information that takes hours of research.

ATLANTA (CNN) -- As more than one billion Muslims prepare to celebrate Ramadan, terror experts are mixed about whether the holy month is a tool for recruiting terrorists.

Some terrorism experts and Islamic scholars say Ramadan gives extremists an opportunity to enlist new recruits.

"It's a time which can be exploited by radical clerics to motivate individuals into taking action on the basis they are somehow serving their religion," says terror expert M.J. Gohel.

And analysts see another temptation for terrorists: exploiting the Battle of Badr, a symbolic date in Muslim history, which falls near the U.S. presidential election.

Stolen AEP Van With Dangerous Materials On Board Recovered
Van Contained Acid-Core Batteries

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- A stolen American Electric Power van with combustible material in its cargo was found Tuesday afternoon after being reported missing earlier in the day, NBC 4 reported.

The van was taken from the area of Marion and Champion avenues between 12:15 a.m. and 8 a.m. and was found along East Deshler Avenue at about 12:30 p.m.

Hazardous materials crews were called to the scene because the van contained acid-core batteries that could have spilled during transport, according to an AEP representative.

The description of the missing truck was posted on "Metro Alert" signs near Columbus freeways.

There is no word on if the person or people who took the van have been apprehended.

And I would like to know what Senator Dayton heard that convinced him to vacate DC and also vacate his staff, plus advise others not to visit DC until after the election.

He must have heard something that caused him to believe DC would be attacked.

In Frederick, Maryland and Gettysburg PA, preps have been underway since last January for victims of a wmd attack in D.C. I mean- SERIOUS preps.

Also reportedly there is a wmd exercise today in Arizona and in several other states as well. Why schedule them for Election day unless you are worried that something may occur on that date?

What is the update on those supposed 8 nukes floating around the country as we speak? Any luck finding them?

I think that the terror level was not raised because we realized that we really can't evacuate people in time. Maybe I'm just paranoid. Maybe it was a fake OBL tape- but I put NOTHING past Al Qaeda.

Have been watching the coverage on Fox news. I might switch over to the BBC to have a laugh at John Snow.

It's really too close to call. I had a gut feeling Bush will win, but, (and I'll be waiting for a deluge of abusive freepmail after this!) Kerry could easily take it too.

I tell you one thing, I don't get Bin Laden at all. If that tape was his feeble attempt at influencing the election, he's really lost a grip on things.

It would have been logical to expect a pre-election attack following the tape, but the fact that he has done nothing makes him look weaker than if he hadn't appeared at all.
