The Threat Matrix

The title refers to a daily report given to the president of the United States detailing the most serious terrorist threats against the country. To tackle those threats, the government has formed a top-notch task force to infiltrate the terror cells and cut off the danger.

"Every morning, the president receives a list of the top ten terrorist threats - this list is known as the threat matrix."

We here at FR are trying to be in conjunction with the daily reports around the world that involve threats. We try to provide a storehouse of information that takes hours of research.

ATLANTA (CNN) -- As more than one billion Muslims prepare to celebrate Ramadan, terror experts are mixed about whether the holy month is a tool for recruiting terrorists.

Some terrorism experts and Islamic scholars say Ramadan gives extremists an opportunity to enlist new recruits.

"It's a time which can be exploited by radical clerics to motivate individuals into taking action on the basis they are somehow serving their religion," says terror expert M.J. Gohel.

And analysts see another temptation for terrorists: exploiting the Battle of Badr, a symbolic date in Muslim history, which falls near the U.S. presidential election.

Long ride JP. Don't be surprised if the lines are extremely long. My polling location opened up at 6am. The election officers I spoke with said there was a very long line at 5:30am and it was chaos for the first few hours.

I also overheard one of the officers saying she needed an incident report. From what I could gather, a fight broke out.

I didn't see any armed security or even any police officers. I find that a bit strange given all the threats we've been hearing.

IMO, this is going to be an historical election. Voters are turning out in record numbers. This election is also CRITICAL to the future of our country as we know it.

Why is it taking more than a 1/2 hour for a post to show up?

I suspect it is the combination of two thing.

1. Extra heavy election and terror related traffic.

2. The Moderators working overtime to prevent trolls from gumming up the works. I suspect that they may even be screening most posts before allowing them on.

GZ, thanks as always for these summaries. We here at TM are well aware of what is really going on out there. But I took the liberty this weekend of copying your last summary and sending it to several associates in Minnesota who are basically clueless and were leaning Kerry. They didn't believe me at our dinner last week of what really is at stake. Of the 8 who I copied on this info, 5 basically said "holy ****" and are leaning Bush. Only 1, and she's left of Kerry, paid no heed.

So thanks for helping me turn a few votes!

Potentially Hazardous Truck Reported Stolen

Truck Vanished Late Monday Or Early Tuesday

POSTED: 11:07 am EST November 2, 2004 COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Columbus police said Tuesday that they were searching for an American Electric Power truck that was apparently stolen late Monday or early Tuesday.

The truck disappeared from the area of Marion Road and South Champion Avenue, police said.

Police were searching for the truck because it apparently has materials inside that could be hazardous, NBC 4 reported.

The truck has Ohio license plate No. PBU-8474. The van is tan-colored, 22 feet long, and has an AEP logo on it, police said.

For one thing ... I also get the impression that OBL thinks 50,000 people died on 9/11.

I do not think his reference was to Bush abondoning 50,000 dead people, but 50,000 people in need that were AT the WTC that day. Those were the people (including those 3000+ that died) that needed the direction and leadership of their president that day, in his eyes. Not one who was reading to children.

Do I believe that in Bush, no, but just suggesting an alternative viewpoint on what his meaning was.

Veteran Gulf ruler Zayed dies

The veteran ruler of the United Arab Emirates, Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan al-Nahyan of Abu Dhabi, has died.

An announcement on Abu Dhabi television said the 86-year-old sheikh had died on Tuesday evening.

The ruler of the emirate of Dubai, Sheikh Maktoum bin Rashid, will act as president of the seven emirate group until a new overall ruler is chosen.

Sheikh Zayed had been president of the UAE since its birth in 1971. He was known to be in poor health.
