The Threat Matrix

The title refers to a daily report given to the president of the United States detailing the most serious terrorist threats against the country. To tackle those threats, the government has formed a top-notch task force to infiltrate the terror cells and cut off the danger.

"Every morning, the president receives a list of the top ten terrorist threats - this list is known as the threat matrix."

We here at FR are trying to be in conjunction with the daily reports around the world that involve threats. We try to provide a storehouse of information that takes hours of research.

ATLANTA (CNN) -- As more than one billion Muslims prepare to celebrate Ramadan, terror experts are mixed about whether the holy month is a tool for recruiting terrorists.

Some terrorism experts and Islamic scholars say Ramadan gives extremists an opportunity to enlist new recruits.

"It's a time which can be exploited by radical clerics to motivate individuals into taking action on the basis they are somehow serving their religion," says terror expert M.J. Gohel.

And analysts see another temptation for terrorists: exploiting the Battle of Badr, a symbolic date in Muslim history, which falls near the U.S. presidential election.

I cannot recall where I came across the article or posting or whatever it was, but I believe someone today published an account of their take on why we saw the Azzam video and then the UBL video.

Jill had it on her site and some one transfered and except here. I concur. The jist was that the ABC video was a message to OBL that operations were ready, the OBL was the final execute message.

Personally, I haven't heard or read anything to convince me the two recently released video's aren't anything but authentic.

Ler's do a Kerry here...I have two opinions on that article you posted assuming the article is factually correct.

OPINION 1: It's not a sin or a crime to panic. The undercover agent needs to buck up and get nerves of steel and/or get retrained and/ or be sent back to the states for a more tame assignment.

OPINION 2: She should have anticipated being searched at some point and time. This article may not include all the details. I hope an investigation by
the military and the alphabets clears up this situation.

WESTERN intelligence has discovered a new training course for regional terrorist group Jemaah Islamiah under way in the southern Philippines.

Sources say intelligence estimates between 20 and 30 Indonesians are attending the course.

The length the course will go for is uncertain, with estimates ranging from six weeks to several months.

Because of heightened surveillance, it is not possible for JI to conduct courses for larger numbers than this.

The course is taking place at a JI camp in a territory controlled by the separatist Moro Islamic Liberation Front

There is no question on the UBL video authenticity IMO.

As far as the Azzam tape. My only real question is whether it is Adam Gadahn or not.

Is bin laden tape authentic?

Probably all of us do not have access to the information requested. However, these are questions that a competent investigator would ask. I am assuming that our intelligence folks are competent investigators and have factored these things into their evaluation. That should count for a significant amount.

However, from the face value of the presented tape alone, the topics discussed and his appearance, there are some variations, but nothing that I am aware or have been made aware of that is out of character for him. To think that this is some kind of elaborate government hoax is not the logical way of reviewing the data, nor fully appreciating the work of intelligence. The simplest theory is often the correct theory.

Kerry Took Poll on Bin Laden Tape

Drudge discussed this on his radio show. Imagine our country's leader making decisions based on polls???? Here it is, before the elections even, John Kerry is no leader.

It is interesting though, that the Sahab logo on the bin Laden tapes has been on the left side and the Azzam tape it's on the right. Don't know what, if anything, that might mean. LOL

Assuming that the tapes were made/edited by Sahab, it would likely mean that they haven't bothered to standarize their productions and only remember to put the logo in one of the corners out of the way. Professional networks standarize this.
